This looks like a week where our local meteorologists are just going to shrug and say, "Hey, it's Kentucky, the weather's gonna do what the weather's gonna do." Snow? Rain? Floods?? I'll get through it with some good music. Speaking of which, here's another song that you probably knew was a cover when you heard it.
#9: You Can't Hurry Love - Phil Collins
Ah, back in Phil's "cute" era. It was also the era where you couldn't tell if a song on the radio was Phil Collins, solo, or Genesis, the group (Collins was their lead singer). That'll make your lamb lie down on Broadway!
But it was Phil's world, so it seemed, back then. With hit albums on both ends, everything he was on seemed to be gold (he even produced "I Know There's Something Going On," the post-Abba hit by Frida). So if he wanted to take a Motown classic and give it a little white bread treatment, who cared?
Actually, his version isn't nearly as "white bread" as another Motown classic-turned-cover later on this countdown. It retained the fun, bouncy feel of the original, which was a #1 hit for the Supremes in 1966.
It's a feel-good song from the more "innocent" era of music, brought back to life in all of its fun.
You Can't Hurry Love
Written by Holland-Dozier-Holland
Originally recorded by the Supremes, 1966
Famously covered by Phil Collins, 1982

that was such a cute song. i guess i shouldn't be surprised there's an original, but didn't imagine it would be the supremes.
what surprised me was stumbling on the original version of 'groovy kind of love' years ago and how different it was
