Gout is known as the rich man's disease or "the disease of kings". A common attack of gout is in the toe with a feeling of it being on fire. Sudden and severe attacks of pain, redness and swelling in the joints is what characterizes this disease. A common type of arthritis this disease can attack anyone. It is caused by high levels of uric acid in the blood. It is caused from diet, genetic factors or health issues. Have you experienced this? I have and no fun.

This guy I know that works at the grocery store tells me he has gout, but if he is good about "maintaining", he doesn't get those attacks (as much). I can't remember what he said, but something about not eating certain foods helps.

@Sophie1031 He did say it took a lot of will power to not eat those foods for the sake of health - many of which were his favorites.

Hopefully you get it too badly if you watch your diet and exercise.

My mother had it once. There are pills for that and the doctor recommended less red meat.

I have not and I hope that I never do. I am sure it is very painful. I believe I watched a documentary that said Henry VIII most likely had gout and diabetes.

From what I've heard it seems to be more common in men than women. I have not experienced it.
