feastin' time!

Ya know how y'all read 'n hear 'bout the ol' cat lady? Heck, ya might be one 'r know one personal. Here, the hubs'd be the ol' cat fella. He took to feedin' a calico feral that showed'p here 'n she blessed 'im with kittens. Who've gone forth 'n blessed 'im with more kittens (thankfully we've been kitten free fer nearly a year now...which 'tis gonna change here shortly...) There'd be 14 'f the wee darlin's now. Some 're purty friendly, some too friendly 'n some will come to ya, jest don't touch 'em coz they tear off like ya got the plague. He says they aint his cats, yet's names fer 'em all. There's a wee (dang, she's tiny!) grey tabby he calls 'ringtail' that keeps the rest'n line. I get tickled with 'er coz most oft if'n i'm outdoors, she's ridin' 'long'n my shoulder. 'til 'nother comes 'long 'n then she whips 'em good fer jest bein' 'n then returns to my shoulder. She's quite the character. 'fore ya ask 'bout spayin'/neuterin' this herd, i reckon such'll occur when i hit the lotto coz they want $200 each to do such....

Does your county animal control have a spay/neuter program? It might be worth looking into or you might end up being completely over run. Our herd (4 feline beasties) are all fixed. All were discounted or free through various programs.

no ma'am, they don't. there'd be a couple folks who float through here from time to time that've a discount thingy, but they're always booked solid the day such info comes to view :( that'n they'll not do the completely ferals 't all. dunno why? all they'd need to do's dart 'em whilst'n the cage? i've a cat (the eldest son left her when he moved out. 't least t'wasn't a ewe..been there, done that) 'n she's fixed. she used to be 'ndoor/outdoor 'til these all started populatin'. some do play with 'er through the sunroom window. i fear her gettin' 'nto a scrap with so many though (she used to fight anythin' with 4 legs regardless) 'n i'd really dislike losin' 'er. she's been here nearly 12yrs 'n 'tis family.

@crazyhorseladycx I wouldn’t want her near them either in case they carry something like feline leukemia or something

@shaggin there'd be that, too. e'en though she's fully vaccinated, i'd not take such a risk.

Wow - that's a lot of money to have them neutered. They'll no doubt be inbreediing too so could suffer health problems?

yes ma'am. aint figured why the cost?? my ol' vet passed 'way some years back, he used to gimme discounts fer bringin' 'em. i dunno if'n they'll be inbreedin'? there seems to be quite a few tom's 'round these parts who show'p when 'tis 'time'. the smokey grey 'twas here jest yesterday.... jest can't get o'er all the calicoes. all my years out here'n i'd ne'er seen 'em prior. now i've a herd 'f 'em, lol.

My grandfather had a dairy farm, the cats lived in the barn and got milk to drink and their job was to keep the mice, rats and snakes our of the barn... He never neutered any of them and I learned as I got older the cats didn't live long because the horses and cows stepped on them often... I am so glad to have found you writing again. So glad you commented on my story so I could find you...

@PainsOnSlate how many ya want?? i'd'n offer, but sadly she resides'n the UK 'n i fear they'd not make such a trip. wonder what hoops i'd need to jump through to get 'em to Canada? ;) big hugs, sweet friend!

@crazyhorseladycx I don't know about cats but if you cross the border with a dog you need papers with that dog. My kids bring their pups when they come to camp with my sister and I in NY.

That's quite a herd of cats you have there. Since they're feral, I wouldn't spend the money to spay/neuter them. Ringtail sounds like quite the critter.

i've been tryin' to talk 'im 'nto gettin' the ones he can get 'hold 'f fixed. he declines 'n says he don't wanna pay that much $$ 'n 'em jest get ran o'er out here. i say he's quite irresponsible... yes ma'am, she's quite the character!

@just4him i can sorta see such? then 'gain, when ya name 'em 'n feed 'em twice a day 'n they've been here a couple years, i kinda think that makes 'em yer responsibility?

@crazyhorseladycx I can understand his position as they're feral and technically not your cats.

You are right, they should be neutered because they reproduce fast and so many in one birth! wonder how long the cat lady can take care of so many cats!

Catching them all to spay and neuter would be hard too since they won’t let you even touch them. It’s nice your husband loves them even if they aren’t his

nah, such a feat'd not be too diff'cult 's we've large pup kennels (bird dogs...) 'n could put their feed'n those with a gizmo rigged to close the door when they'd be 'nside. jest cannot 'fford to get 'em all fixed. i've been hopin' that 't least he'd do such with the ones he really likes'n can pick'p. sigh...he's 'xhaustin'.

perhaps there'd b'n ordinance 'gainst outdoor cats'n ferals out'n yer neck 'f the woods? livin' out'n the country, we get all sorts'a critters dumped. 'course the original momma cat 'twas either feral 'f jest feared humans too much. she'll come within a few feet 'f 's, but if'n ya lean'n her direction she's gone like a lightnin' bolt.

entertained 'n saddened 't the same time. they've kept my birds 'way from the backyard/pond. can't feed the birds coz the cats can get to the feeders :( i've a couple hummer feeders out that thus far 've remained safe, though i worry 'bout the wee ones when flyin' to/from 'em.

they do a purty good job 'f watchin' out fer's, too, lol. nary a mouse/gopher to be seen. keepin' the skunks 'n snakes 'way 's well. if'n i could jest talk 'em 'nto leavin' the birds 'lone.... 'tis interestin', i've a fox out back. i'd worried such'd go 'fter the cats (particularly when wee kittens), but such's not been so thus far (knockin' wood).

@crazyhorseladycx When I was a child on the farm, I think we had 20 at one stage. They'd line up at milking time for their milk.
