This is the first book in a two book series.
A man is at the airport, his flight home delayed. He's in a quiet area, enjoying his solitude when a man walks up. That man is Gabriel Clarke and he tells a story that changes the man's outlook on things.
Gabriel Clarke lost his father at a young age. He tells the story of growing up on a small farm with his mother and the husband and wife that his mother rents from. He talks about how he struggles to come to terms with his father's passing, how he has his bad days. He leads a lonely life, never going to college and only having one person he can call friend. He goes on a camping trip with that friend and it ends up changing his life. He reconnects with his dead father, and a man helps him connect with the river again. That man isn't just any man though.
There is a second book in this series that I want to get and read. It's a continuation of sorts, but deals with Gabriel being face to face with the grief he had held in for so many years.
I'll link to the second book in the series here :

This book was hard to put down. I don't watch much television, books are my entertainment. I read maybe two or three hours a day.

@LadyDuck It has been so long since I've been in a relationship. I had a brief relationship late last year, it never got beyond the second date. Many years ago, when I was married, I would read to my husband. He hated to read but he liked to hear the stories.

@ScribbledAdNauseum My husband appreciates if I sit with him in the evening to watch a movie. I read when I go to bed, before sleeping.

Yes.
I so judged this book by it's appearance as well. The pages are frayed (designed that way) and I thought "well this should be interesting".
I wasn't disappointed.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I can't wait to start my next book..as the one I have..as I have mentioned is on my nerves. I am tempted to skip to the end..but I might as well legit finish it, as I think I am about 86 percent done.

@snowy22315 I've skipped to the end with a book a time or two. I only do it if I am interested in knowing what happened but the book is droning on and on and on.
There was one that was like that. I forget the title but it was sort of like a dystopian. It started out very promising but then would play with you. Like once you expect one of the characters to be hurt but they end up okay, then a few pages later they are attacked again. I read the reviews after skipping to the end. Everyone else was saying what a waste it was. The prologue and the epilogue were like a story in and of itself as well.
If you are nearly done with this book then I don't see the problem with just finishing it. If it's a book I keep stepping away from? I generally give up on it.

Definitely an awesome read. I love the time period as well. 1940's through to the 1970's.

sounds like a good book. I'm reading Echo 4: The Last Edge of Darkness by Kent Wayne.

I've never heard of that. Is it sci fi?

Since you want to read the sequel I assume that means you thought the book was good?

I don't write a discussion on a book I don't like.
I had to write this one differently than all my others because I didn't want to give away the full plot.
This is the first book by the author and people have praised him for it. It's a really good read.
