Hi There My Dear Friends

Last night I threw an impromptu dinner party for my brother, his wife, and our other sister-in-law, who was married to my husband’s now deceased brother. It’s all about family and our love for each other.
I felt a bit guilty partying knowing our older son’s father-in-law is fighting for his life in a Nairobi, Kenya hospital. He suffered a heart attack, and later a stroke, as a result of that heart attack while on a safari.
Our son arrived in Nairobi safely with his wife, her sister, and her brother and are all staying in the same hotel with his mother-in-law. As promised, he texted me with updates, and as promised to those of you who have asked for updates and sent your most welcome prayers and best wishes, this is what I have learned.
Father-in-law is a bit discombobulated, tired, weak, but alert. My son and the family had 30 minutes of mostly lucid conversations with him, but the effort took a lot out of him and he fell asleep.
He has brain swelling, which is being carefully monitored. Over the next day, if things hold, he will be out of the riskiest part of the post-stroke period. If all goes well, he will be able to fly home to New York City for heart surgery next week.
I have many unanswered questions, but those shall wait.
I want to thank you all for your prayers, kind words, and emotional support. We love our son’s inlaws and consider them family, too. Family is everything to us, and it’s all about family when push comes to shove.

Oh my - I'm hoping for the best for your son's father in law and that he flies safely home soon. I had not read your other post - how scary for this to happen while on their trip. Thinking of your family

. . . thinking positive thoughts

Eating out with your family is not in anyway a celebration that you feel bad about it.

Thats why you were asking me how Nairobi Hospital is?
If this makes you feel alittle better. Its a private hospital far better than government hospital. My sister had a CS section there while she was delivering her twin boys like 4 years ago and the service was awesome. I believe he is in good hands and by Gods grace all will be fine

I'm glad the swelling is being carefully monitored, and I hope things become okay enough for him to go back home for the surgery.
Will be keeping you all in my thoughts.

Yes, it's a big expense, but they don't seem to blink an eye on taking $60,000 vacations a few times a year, so this shouldn't be too much of a problem money-wise. My son could certainly use the money for other things, but when it comes to this, money is the least of their problems.
They keep an apartment in NYC, and I'm sure they'll feel more comfortable using American doctors and whatever health insurance they can.

Family is really everything and it's the same for us. Though I don't really get along well with my siblings, I know that when push comes to shove, they would all be on my side.

Well, it is at least not the worst news. I will continue to keep him in my prayers and hope he can be transported soon.
