Seriously. I get asked, "Are there any black hockey players?" more than you might think. And the answer is yes, and I am counting down ten of them. We are at #9, and this guy is a legend: Grant Fuhr.
Wayne Gretzky has said that he believes Grant Fuhr is the greatest netminder of all time. Fuhr spent the first decade of his 19-year NHL career playing for the Edmonton Oilers, a dynasty stacked with superstars such as Gretzky, Mark Messier, Glen Anderson, Paul Coffey, and Jari Kurri. During that time frame, Fuhr won five Stanley Cups, a Vezina Trophy as the league's best goalie, was a six-time All Star, and, while playing in Buffalo, shared, with Dominik Hasek, a William M. Jennings Trophy awarded to the goaltender(s) (usually a joint, team award) allowing the fewest goals that season. Grant Fuhr also still holds the NHL record for longest undefeated streak by a goaltender at 23 games.
Fuhr also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Buffalo Sabres, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, and the Calgary Flames.
In 19 seasons, Grant Fuhr played in 868 NHL regular season games, with a 403-295 won/lost record. He is credited as having appeared in 150 post-season games, with a record of 92-50. He is both the first black player to win the Stanley Cup and the first black player to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
A lot of guys would figuratively kill to have a career like that!

That guy was some Goalie. Very few black hockey players were in the NHL at that time. He really paved the way for others to follow! Ken Dryden and Pat Roy might disagree with Gretzky's assessment

I knew the name belonged to a hockey star but didn't know Grant Fuhr was black.
