Panic Attacks

Who here suffers from them and what triggers them for you? What helps them go away? I suffer from panic attacks although they are few and far between sometimes. Most of the time they happen for me when I'm feeling stressed and overwhelmed or extremely pissed off. Which is surprising because I didn't have a panic attack when Dave "forgot" about the laptop being KK's birthday present. But last night, I was in a good mood. Feeling pretty good. Just laying in bed about fall asleep when .... WHAM! I was hit with a panic attack that lasted over 15 minutes. It was so bad that I had to get up and walk around. And my cats of course knew something was wrong so I had all 6 of them at my feet meowing. My dad started howling and the only thing I could do to shut them up was to give them all treats so they wouldn't wake up the whole house. One of my cats Peanut, refused to eat his treats so I sat on the couch and tried to give them to him by hand. He still refused so I put his treats back in the container and leaned back into the couch. Next thing I know, he is on my chest and within a few minutes, my panic attack went away. Once it was over, he got off of my chest and waited patiently for his treats. Needless to say, he got extra for helping me.

That may have been what caused this panic attack for me. I had been talking to a family member about possibly having to move because my living environment has become unhealthy. I had thought I had a place to go but now I'm not so sure. Not to mention, I would have to go through all the steps to get my name off of a bank account, get the money back I've paid on the car that I would have to leave behind and such.

He really did. And he hates it when I sneeze repeatedly. He'll come and meow at me until I'm done sneezing.

I call it anxiety but maybe it's a mix of anxiety and panic attack... I get it when I get into a car as a passenger, especially with someone I've never driven before. I start to panic, can't sit still, get hot all of a sudden and feel anxious and fearful inside. Even want to bolt out of the car. Usually it passes quickly, but sometimes takes a while. When this happens to me I chant "monkeys, monkeys, sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g..." repetitively and it seems to help, though not 100% of the time.

If I knew what all my triggers were, I would avoid them but my panic attacks hit out of nowhere most of the time. The only thing that helps me is to take deep breaths and either walk around or sit somewhere very quiet.
