My world has changed a lot. I don´t know it anymore.

When I was a child, we fortunately did not have mice in the house. The only ones I knew were Mickey mouse and Mighty mouse. I did have a white mouse for a day before Christmas when a friend gave me a a white mouse as gift. My parents made me take it back to the pet shop after we had spent the whole Christmas Eve chasing the mouse. Now we would be extremely unfortunate if we did not have at least one mouse in the house. At least, I need one. My granddaughter uses that difficult to manage thingie in the middle of her laptop to move the cursor along the keyboard. All that, while my other granddaughter, Sofía, is playing with her tablet. When I was her age, I liked to read. And all my books were made of paper. This new generation is empowered (another word we did not use). My poor daughter (who is not empowered in spite of being a judge) had to buy her eldest daughter a laptop and her youngest daughter a tablet so that she could take a nap for half an hour after work. I was not empowered when my daughters were small. But I was Mom. So I sent the girls to bed for a nap after their lunch. And they had to be in bed before the adult TV time started. Sure, sometimes they told me that they were the only people on earth that did not watch Dark Shadows. I said I doubted that and it was all. Now my grandchildren hardly sleep at all. I wonder if all that hyperactivity is not a result of that and the lack of a couple of spankings on the butt. Good morning friends. My morning thoughts.

We are educated differently, unfortunately our children are educated much worse, they are all allowed and they all have it.

In my time, presents were a thing for birthdays and Christmas. And not many either.

@Nevena83 Now parents work a lot to buy lots of things to their children. But they don´t have time to play with them.

I agree with you all along the way. A couple of smacks in childhood might have saved a few from becoming delinquents later in life.

I have discovered that new parents become slaves of their children. It is a shame.

@marguicha It's probably the one career that most of us don't get any training in - bringing up children.

We try to limit the Technology exposure to our kids. However, on some days, they could watch a bit more of TV or Youtube.

My daughter tried to do that with Vicente, but he had problems at school so she had to give in.

Everything is different from our world from "before". But I am telling you that it will be very hard for the future generations.

A spanking now is considered child abuse. Things certainly have changed.

My son wants a pet mouse. We do get mice in the house and I hate it as they make such a gross mess! The track pad on my son's school laptop is so hard for us to use so we use a mouse that plugs into the USB port. The ones the school sells don't seem to last long. I was spanked and hit with a paddle often and it didn't stop my hyperactivity at all! I could not control it I was so hyper and could not sit still or concentrate. I am sure I needed medication for ADHD and wish my mother hadn't felt it was taboo. I would have had a much easier time learning at school had I had medication.

I think some people must have the pills, but maybe not so many pills and not every child. Vicente is (or was) hyperactive. Claudia gave him his pill with his breakfast so that he would behave at school. But she put up with him in the evening.

One boy a little only has to scream the place down and his Mother is his slave and I really felt for her as he only stopped when he got what he wanted. Most unearthly scream I have ever heard up to yet and have heard quite a few of those coming from my kids but I stopped them in their tracks for sure.

Same here. My girls did not need to be spanked in front of other people. They knew that they´d better behave.

@lovinangelsinstead21 My best male friend did the best thing I know with one of his girls. Camila is the youngest, el conchito, and she was used to have everything. Once she was at the supermarket with Humberto and he said he would not buy her something or other. So she threw herself to the floor and started yelling and crying. Humberto threw himself to the floor too, and much to Camila´s shock, he did the same. Camila immediately stopped crying and went as far away of him as she dared, utterly ashamed. She never did it again. Camila still blushes when Humberto tells this story to the family.

@marguicha The eldest one was the most temperamental but he did know where to draw the line with me. He once threw himself on the floor in Heathrow Airport para darme caña and I just cooly picked him up under my arm and carried him off of course the glares and stares were nobodies business. He never did that one again thank goodness. Otherwise they have more or less behaved quite well up to their teens of course.

I do have a mouse in my house, and not the kind in the picture. I have seen his little droppings under the sink.

I had to thank digital gadgets in a sense, for without them, I wouldn't be able to rest from my babysitting sessions. I know that I am bad, but OMG, kids who are too active could kill me. I could only play with them that much but no more. (We didn't have those things when we were kids! We were fine then, reading books and going to bed early. No choice really .)

There were lots of board games, books, TV and even balls, bicycles and skates. And we could use our imagination.
