Day 4 But the Coin Hasn’t Passed Out Yet

Last Sunday evening, I received a call from my panicking niece because his son accidentally ingested a coin sized 27mm. I did not witness the whole scenario because I was out so I just asked some questions about the child condition to assess the urgency of bringing him to the hospital. Kid was able to speak few minutes later so I suspected that it already reaches to the stomach. The mother worried a lot so I told her to bring the child to the hospital for evaluation. X-ray was performed per doctor’s order. Result shows that indeed, the coin already reached to the stomach. The kid was stable without any manifestation of danger so they were advised to observe the child if the coin would just pass thru with the stool in a certain period of time. If not, x-ray shall be performed once more which was what really happened. The image shows that the coin was still in the stomach. Next appointment to the doctor’s clinic is on Monday and I thought that it’s already too long to rule out any possibilities of removing the coin by a certain procedure. Although, the child is OK we are anxious about the risk of the situation and we pity the child if he undergo a surgery because his body was not able to remove the object naturally. We are careful and cautious but accident can happen anytime. Photo Credit: pixabay.com

Thanks for the suggestion. We tried to give soft food and banana as well plenty of water. The kid just turned 6 last week. This is really odd because this does not happen during the previous years. We always make reminders to not to put anything that is not edible to his mouth but this turned out to be the irony.

When my daughter was young I was always worried she might do something like this. So although I love playing with kids very much taking care of them is another story. It is too stressful I can't enjoy. I hope he gets well soon.

Thanks. We're hoping that no need to undergo any procedure for the removal.

This was a couple of months ago and I wonder what happened to the child now? I hope that it was expelled naturally than an operation be done on her young body.

We did not witness it passing thru stools but we believe it was because the 3rd X-ray was clear already. I mean there's no manifestation of foreign object elsewhere in stomach or intestines. We thought it happened in the school because the child once told that he pooped on their room's CR. It was a relief. We're no longer interested to see how it passed most importantly it went naturally.

We hope no more. We're just anxious throughout the ordeal though the kid is just fine and hope nothing less.

@Shavkat The kid has fever and complained about headache yesterday. Although he's better now and our next appointment will be on Monday. I think we need to undergo another X-ray.
