Hi MyLot,
It was hard to know what to type about for my St. Patrick's Day post - the journal style post won out... but just because it's after St.Patrick's day doesn't mean I have to stay off the topic of all things green/Irish/Celtic …
So my second thought was to tell you about "Celtic Tides: A Musical Odyssey".
I caught this special on TV back in the day... probably close to when it was produced in 1998, and I had already been a long time fan of Celtic music.
It is important to note that this is not a concert DVD. Instead it is music interspersed with narrative and interviews with the artists intermixed. If you are looking for a concert or performance style dvd with no interruptions in the music, this is not it.
Artists featured include Clannad, Solas, Mary Black, Altan, Ashley MacIsaac, Natalie McMaster and Capercaillie - among others. They cover a wide range of Celtic sounds and interesting insights from the artists themselves.
I enjoyed this so much that I have both the CD and the DVD.
The CD - worry not, are the songs featured in the film, in the entirety without the commentary or interviews.
Here's one of my best liked tracks :

We spent a vacation in Ireland a year after spending a long vacation in Scotland. That's when I "turned" Irish. We heard lots of Irish music performed live there and loved the Irish step dancing. I've heard Sleepy Maggie before and love it!

@FayeHazel Both are so beautiful and amazing countries to see. They have fabulous castles, too, and a wee bit of everything. lol

@DianneN I would love to see some of those castles. Did you see Loch Ness? That and they have cool accents

Wow, to see both places, one following the other.
There is just something magic about that celtic music and the step dancing is amazing as well.
So cool to know someone else who knows this song

True. Celtic encompasses Irish, Scottish, and certain types of British people (such as those from Cornwall and Wales) - might be some others in there. too. I'm a bit of Cornish myself.. I love the unique rhythm of the song, pulls me right in all the time.

That's alright too. Sometimes too much tv is just too much

@amadeo Ah Jazz - I don't know a lot about it, but I do remember liking Ornette Coleman

Enya has such universal appeal. Her sister is Moya is the current Clannad vocalist. Cool how that works

It's a fresh twist on the old classics. Ashley MacIssac - looked up some of his performances. He's really eccentric but makes for interesting viewing
