What Have I Gotten Myself Into This Time?

Sometimes I question my own sanity!
The last couple of months have been relatively quiet and peaceful but in just a couple of weeks, that will all end. I have agreed to costume a local production of Shrek the Musical. When I was orginally asked, I was assured that we would be able to borrow a lot of what we will need from another community theatre who produced the same musical a couple of years ago.
This afternoon I watched some video from that production. Some of their costumes might work but for most of our cast, I’m going to have to get creative. Auditions have not been held yet and I don’t yet know who will be filling which roles so I am limited in what I can actually do right now.
Auditions are the week of April 7th and our opening weekend is in the middle of June. I suspect that from the moment the cast list is published until opening night my life is going to lived somewhere between Shrek’s swamp and the kingdom of Duloc.
Have you ever felt like you bit off a bit more than you could reasonably chew?

I spent some time in the costume shop this morning looking over what I have to work with. I REALLY want to get started...but until I have a cast list there's not much I can do except worry.

@1creekgirl I don't know if it's possible to do a show of this magnitude without stressing out. We shall see how the next couple of months play out.

I keep taking on bigger and bigger challenges. Funny, though, I turned down two smaller gigs in the past month. Both of which were paying jobs for other theatres. I'm beginning to question my own sanity. Shrek will be a totally volunteer job.

Let's hope that it's not as bad as you are anticipating. Maybe a lot of costume adjusting can be done and you won't have to start from scratch for as much of it.

The costuming in the other production was pretty awful. Shrek was dressed like Cousin Eddie from Christmas Vacation with ogre ears glued to the hat and green face-paint.

Imagination isn't the problem (I prefer doing whimsical productions to trying to do time-accurate costumes for some of our more contemporary productions). Time and $$$ are a different matter.

I think the hardest part is not being able to start yet but knowing that once I start I will be full steam ahead for several weeks.
