The stomach's feeling better and I'm ready to roll into the weekend! (Nothing like a weekend to help you feel better!) Speaking of rolling, you may roll your eyes at today's selections, given that the "hit" wasn't really that big a hit and the "non-hit" came from a multi-platinum album. But, to me, they're both great songs. Here's the obscure "eyes" song. #4: Dancin' Eyes - Bob Welch 1977 was a good year to be associated with Fleetwood Mac. The band was selling 40 gazillion copies of Rumours, and their former guitarist, Bob Welch, had his own hit with a remake of a song he originally did in Fleetwood Mac, "Sentimental Lady." (The original is on Bare Trees, and I tend to like it better because it has an extra verse and is more upbeat.) While his first solo album (he was in a band called Paris after leaving FM) didn't sell as much as Rumours (well, one million is about what Rumours was selling....per week....), it was a hit. And a pretty dang good album. I had it out a couple of years ago and had totally forgotten how good it was. That includes this album cut, about the memories of the past and how fleeting things pass ("like a drive in the country on Sunday all too soon it had to end"). Bob Welch is the only person who was in Fleetwood Mac not inducted into the Hall of Fame with the rest of the band. That's criminal. Sadly, Welch had an unsuccessful spinal operation that left him in a wheelchair and constant pain, so he took his life in 2012. But what music he left us. John mentioned it but Ebony Eyes was a catchy Bob Welch song. When I saw Dancin I did a double take and though you meant Ebony which charted at #14, a bit better than your non-hit selection Here is a replay of Welch's follow up to Sentimental Lady.
