One of these Days I'll realize that I'm not 12 Anymore

Had I been male and if someone had taken video of my little “adventure” yesterday evening I probably could have been added to one of those “hold my beer” compilations. However, I am definitely female and there was no alcohol involved (and also no actual witnesses).
Every evening I trudge down the hill in our backyard to secure three final survivors of my chicken flock. The job is not as simple as it should be since there is a bit of an obstacle course between the house and the chicken coop. Across my path, there are two large red oak tree trunks waiting for my husband to mill into lumber. Both trunks have been on the ground for nearly a year and I’ve developed a variety of strategies for getting around them.
If I’m feeling old and tired (or carrying water buckets) I either go the long way around or carefully step over each fallen log. I’ve occasionally barked my shins on the bark. The trees are large (nearly two feet in diameter) so just stepping over them is not an easy task.
If I’m feeling cheerful and energetic (and unwilling to concede that I'm supposed to be a grown-up) I have a tendency to put a little pep in my step to get the momentum necessary to put a foot on top of each tree trunk as I come to it and “bounce” across the backyard like an energetic child.
Except I’m not a child anymore.
To be continued...

I'm right there with you. I still act like and do things as if I were a teenager or a college student. Hence why I keep getting hurt all the time! haha

@SophiaMorros You and I are a lot alike. I am always getting hurt doing something I am too old to do. But I do it anyway, thinking I'm still a spring chicken. And then, while I'm hurt, I tell myself I'm not going to go out and do anything stupid again. But then after I heal, I get that itch to go out and do something stupid again! haha

I seem to do something major at least once a year or so. Almost exactly a year ago I bounced down our basement stairs from top to bottom and had to have my shoulder checked out. Two years before that I tried to amputate two of my fingers and had to have them stitched up. I'm almost NEVER sick but considering the injuries, I might need to start acting a little closer to my age.

@moffittjc yep. This will stop me from bouncing over those logs for a few weeks but as long as they are still in my yard I'll probably be bouncing again (albeit maybe a bit more carefully for a while).

It will be a while before I bounce across the backyard again. Right now I'm not even capable of walking across it.

@SophiaMorros I hope you didn't injure yourself too badly.

@CarolDM Thankfully there is no "real" damage. The bones are fine, the tendons and ligaments are fine. I'll just have some really hideous bruising and pain from pressure from internal swelling. It could have been SO much worse (I fractured that same thigh bone--the femur--some 31 or so years ago).

Some days when it is nice outside, it is easy to feel like that.

We've had some really lovely spring days and it does make me feel more energetic.

Last summer while camping, I saw those two trees in the Adirondacks and tried to get over them (to get to the bathroom) but in trying that, I fell and did a job on my new knee. We had a talk with the ranger and within an hour the trees were gone from to trail to the bathrooms. When I was a kid we had chickens, and while my children were growing I thought about getting some chickens for the kids...it never happened because we always lived where chickens were not allowed....

My knees are fine but I'm definitely getting too old for this sort of thing!

I've come back to read these three posts as I missed them first time around. I really don't think I want to know what happened.

Like you....I'm not likely to go around if I go over.
Age is a number.
