Visiting 1920's England

I've been in in 1920's London for a few days now. At times I've rushed through, barely paying attention the scenery and goings on around me. Other days I've gone at a more leisurely pace, soaking in the sights and people watching. Today I am rather at a standstill.
I am not sure whether to push on, to wrap up my visit to 1920's England or to slow down, to savor the last fifty odd pages or so. Part of me wants to know what is to become of me and my lady lover, the other half wants to put my hands to my face and peak between my fingers like a frightened child.
You'll forgive me, won't you? Sometimes I get pretty passionate about what I am reading. Today is no different.
For the moment I've put the book away and am watching some more of The Worst Jobs In History documentary series.
The Paying Guests by Sarah Waters for those wondering.

The London of the 1920s would be a terrible place to visit! 1930s might be nice.

This book didn't focus much on the condition of the streets or of the political climate either. It did touch on the war a bit, but only so far as to establish that the main character's brothers were deceased.
I'd say 1950's London might have been a bit safer to traverse. Probably an era I'd want to visit both here and in the UK. I'd probably pop over to France as well.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Maybe the late 1950s, early 60s. My Mumma left school and worked in London at around that time.

@Poppylicious What did she end up doing as a career?
I've seen clips of footage from London at around that time. I think it had to do with makeup..

I think the 50's would be fun to visit. I don't normally read books written in the setting of the 1920's. I am now reading another book by the same author.

@LadyDuck I prefer them as well. I am trying to remember how far back I've read. I think perhaps the 1040's.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I have read books in the setting of mid and late 1800 and early 1900. I like old time settings.

Oh you tricked me
I thought you were in London and I didn't even realize it said 1920 and that would be way in the past

Oh, heh.
I tricked someone else unintentionally as well. I told them that I had celebrated Guy Fawkes Day last year and they said "Oh, so you went to England?" I told him "I wish!"
I'll say the same to you.. ."I Wish!"

You are in 1920's London and I am in modern day Sydney. I imagine 1920's London was fairly pungent.

There's been surprisingly little talk of the streets of London. Most of the book is one of the more well to do neighborhoods.
Are you enjoying Modern Day Sydney? I've been reading books with settings in different time periods. I intend to keep at it. I imagine it will be strange when I finally pick up a book in Modern Day.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes, it's just funny when they took about it being stifling hot in December and January.

@snowy22315 Really odd for us isn't it? We wouldn't know what that's like. Even our "unseasonably warm" is still cold.
