Oh Kurt, You Hurt Your Own Song...And You Are SIGNED!

I should just say from the get-go that I am a fan of Kurt Vile. I have actually covered one of his songs which is not featured here. BUT, I feel somewhat bad for the guy because while he is a great songwriter, he has difficulty playing his own music.
He has a record deal, and tours, but this performance of a great Kurt Vile song, Pretty Pimpin' was as raw as it gets, and...
TERRIBLE.
He could not play his own song. He could not get his own timing right. He had a whole lot of difficulty getting it right.
And the audience noticed.
But I still appreciate the rawness of it all. What do you think of this performance?
It is a complicated song, BUT he seemed to have struggled on all counts. Singing, playing, timing, EVERYTHING.
I feel bad for him.

First time I have heard this and about him. Perhaps that is just what he should be a songwriter.

Hey, you're back to posting, cool!
Ah, I can appreciate that he went for it. I guess it goes to show that even though he might have skills in writing - he just can't interpret it that well. That would be frustrating

He is unique, which is why I think they want to put him front and center. But like someone else suggested here, he may more suited for writing than performing. But he IS a very unique artist. I like what he does, even if it is clear he has trouble performing his own songs. That being said, when it comes to my Pink Flamingoes album I put out some years back, I could not perform these songs live right now. I'd have to spend several months practicing them to do that. So I am not a performer either to be sure.

Nice, weather I agree or not does not matter. You drew your own conclusion. Sounds free and is free and that can most likely be heard in your music.

@Hate2Iron He actually is and I enjoy his music very much, despite him being a little rough around the edges at live performances. But hey, you know, you had guys like Neil Young who could barely sing a lick and he was very talented, a great songwriter, and very successful.

Here is the official video of the released song. It's an AWESOME song. This version is of course polished. I wonder if someone else played the guitar on it. Or if they looped it after many takes. Either way. It's an awesome song in it's recorded form. Many times in the video you notice, "he's not actually playing his guitar."
