For a billy goat maybe. But actually, I just watched a video on YouTube about edible weeds that are common and want to share this link with you. I have dandelions in our yard as they pop up randomly in places. I have heard about dandelion wine and just found a recipe for dandelion greens. Imagine that! Here is a link from Allrecipes.com for Dandelion greens with a kick. https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/222744/dandelion-greens-with-a-kick/
If you think everything in your yard that isn't grass must be a nuisance, you're missing out—on a free lunch. Those pesky weeds invading your lush green patc...

I do eat dandelion leaves - but I get the farmed ones that they sell in the store. There is no way I would eat any dandelions from the yards out here. People spray them with pesticides like crazy and for years . . . I wouldn't trust any weeds where I live. But if I knew they were absolutely safe, I could graze like a cow for free all day .

We have them growing in the yard. I don't use any pesticides and still I am quite reluctant to eat the wild ones growing around in our backyard. I might have to have something to get me a little drunk first before I try them. But I gave a recipe to my wife to look at and she said she liked the idea of that recipe, but she will be substituting collards, or turnip or mustard greens instead.

@lookatdesktop In our stores, organic dandelion greens are about $2.50-2.99 a bunch - not too bad if you want to try the farmed stuff. I used to saute them and have them with scrambled eggs . . . but now I literally grab a few leaves, wash 'em, and eat 'em raw just like that. It's a bit earthy and bitter, but you get used to it.

We have to learn about the leaves before they blossom.

Is there a best time to harvest? The ones in our yard, not a lot of them left after mowing the grass but the yellow flowers are showing along with the snow balls full of seed that blow away in a good wind.

@lookatdesktop It seems that you have to learn about its leaves so that you harvest the leaves before the plant blooms. I was very happy this year watching the beautiful blossoms in my garden, but when I read online, they were past the time of harvest.

@marguicha , I see. So the big one I saw this morning is past it's harvest window. I will remember that next spring if I run across some more wild ones growing.

I've seen dandelion seeds for sale in shops! You really don't need to buy the seeds!

@lookatdesktop I just removed half a dozen heads today, so getting the seeds is not a problem. Yet shops sell them as part of mixed salad plants. Having dandelions does not make you that popular with neighbours either, if you have a lot and they all go to seed.

That would be interesting to tell my friend who spends his spare time, pulling them out of his lawn. He doesn't like those dandy lions much.

That was what my grandmother looked forward to every spring. Being able to fix a fresh batch of dandelion greens.

I never had a dandelion meal, I know dandelion salads are a thing but the thing to always be cautious about is to not use dandelions that are in a mile radius of a weed killer or any other pesticides. Living in a city I would rather not risk that so I have the bees enjoy the dandelions

I think that is a smart thing to think about. I might look into some dandelion greens at a local supermarket or health food store with the ORGANIC label on the package. Hmm. Never even considered doing that until just now.

@lookatdesktop It is worth a try! I would like to do that as well at some point.

Well I learned about this recently so I guess I have more to learn about wild weeds that people can actually eat.

I am one that enjoys eating dandelions, especially the flowers as I find them sweet. I view it as free food!

I am embarrassed to admit that in all my living years, I have never tried eating them. I guess I am having a case of culture shock. Used to eating canned spinach like POP EYE the sailor man.

We are eating dandelions from the childhood, my grandmother taught to eat them. It's healthy.

Dandelion leaves were good until a few days ago, now the flowers are in bloom, they are too bitter. You can use the dandelion buds as "fake capers" too.
