Pain killers are ready and willing to help you with your pain but pain killers do not cure. They send wrong signals in that that which caused the pain lingers. I have known those who have been careless with their knee ligaments just because there was no pain - thanks to pain killelrs - landed in a hospital with a torn ligament. Pain killers as you know do play havoc with one's kidneys too.

Fortunately, we have never had to take a pain killer.

I almost never take them. When I have it was only for a day or two until the pain eased up a little bit.

Sometimes we have no choice but one should get rid of what causes it

I know one has to be careful with pain killers. I am glad I do not have to use any. I would rather find a natural cure for pain.

Just getting relief from pain is not enough. One needs to get rid of the cause.

My doctor is very particular that we don't fall prey to these painkillers. I have endometriosis and the pain is one of the worst pains. But I stay away from painkillers and manage the pain with hot bags and some rest. Pain killers do pass through our liver and are not good.

While they could be taken to ease the pain one should also find out what causes the pain and get a cure for it.

@arunima25 It is a simple mistake we make. When there is pain say for example in our knee joint we walk carefully but once the pain disappears with pain killers we forget about it and damage the knee further

@allknowing Yes pain is just a symptom. The underlying cause has to be treated.

Your experience is a real example that pain serves a purpose of signaling us to attend to a problematic part of our body. I hope to keep this in mind. Thank you for sharing.

Pain killers only deaden the pain and that makes us forget to take care of what has caused it.

It is not good to take a lot of medications in our body. It can also affect our liver.

It is not just that. We tend to ignore the care that is required just because there is no pain. The disease continues.

@allknowing I agree. Some people tend to ignore things in health-related concern. They knew that it will affect them.

Aleve is good for minor pains. My husband and I take that for aches. One thing I take for migraines is Excedrin Migraine. It works real well for headaches.

As long as those pains are superficial all is well but not when they are signs of a disease.

With everything I have going on in this old body, the only relief I get is with pain meds. But, I do go to Pain Management and they do monitor my medication.

I have been told that Tylenol can do damage to the liver over time. It is a very mild pain reliever and helps with headaches, but I take it very sparingly and not that often. Pain killers like Ibuprofen or other more powerful ones like the opioids like Hydrocodone and so forth, are very addictive so that is enough to keep me from taking them.

But sometimes there is no alternative to pain killers. At the same time it is important that one looks at reasons that cause that pain

Even with my severe spinal injuries, the strongest thing I ever take is an aspirin @allknowing . And you are absolutely correct about people making boo-boo's because they 'think' they can do anything. We have pain for a reason.

@allknowing but if it's arthritis it's difficult to treat overnight, and one has to observe proper diet.

You are correct, they mask the symptoms rather than cure them Now I prefer to use them only at night, so I sleep better, because sleeping more helps me heal. In the day time I use a brace on my knee if I need it. I will eventually have to have some medical intervention, though. I am careful with it.
