Are there beggars in your place/country?

Philippines

I was in the downtown earlier today and saw some beggars which actually I seldom saw the past few years in our place. I remember before I usually see a lot of beggars in the city but few years back, our local government discourages us, its citizens, to hand money to the beggars which I believe is the reason why we only have few beggars left these days. Just earlier today I saw some, I wonder if beggars are also present in your place/country?

We do not have beggars here in Switzerland. May be a few in the two largest cities, but the police do not want to see beggars in the streets. They bring them to shelters.

@marieleizl They have their bed and a locker in the shelter. They can take a bath and they are served two free hot meals. They can go out and go back, they are not "prisoners".

Good if they can stay in shelters. Sometimes here in the Philippines, we have beggars and if seen by authorities they bring them to shelter but later they prefer to be released and dont want to stay in shelters

@LadyDuck that’s a good way to handle the homeless people in your place.

Yes, there are beggars in Germany, too. They come from Eastern European countries where they live in great poverty. They are organised in gangs. Knowing this makes people reluctant to give them money because one will never know how much money they have to give their boss.

@marieleizl I've done that occasionally. I asked if they wanted to eat something and they agreed.

same here. Some people are also hesitant to give/help, we dont know how will they use the money. Would be better if we give them foods if they’re really hungry

yes.the main street here always has people asking for handouts. but the ones around here aren't homeless-they get state checks. they found out they get more that way rather than working. great way to live if you have no pride.
