Sitting in the garage

Yep, that's what I'm doing right now. We had a company clean our carpet this morning, but it's still not dry yet. The cleaning liquids made me sneeze and made my throat feel a little closed. We have all the windows open and fans blowing, but it just takes a while. When the guy finished this morning, my husband and I rode to a town about 30 miles away, did a little shopping, then some grocery shopping at Walmart against my better judgement. (I'm boycotting Walmart as much as possible to protest their policy of using almost all self checkouts.) After that, we drove to the little bbq place just down the road for lunch. They have the best home cooking! The carpet still isn't dry, so here I sit. In the garage, enjoying a lovely spring day and hoping I can go in before dark. Well, I think we're going to sit outside in the "love shack" tonight (as our kids call it) and maybe enjoy a fire in the fire pit after a while. Hopefully, we can go in at bedtime!

Those chemicals get to me sometimes too but it's worth it to have clean carpets.

@1creekgirl that's good. Usually once the carpet is completely dry, the chemical smell goes away and all you smell is a nice clean carpet.

I hope the carpet is not bothering you now and that you have been able to go inside.

@1creekgirl Glad the smell has gone. I'm doing well thanks Vicki, my daughter is living with me and my son is 5 minutes away.

Yes, we were able to come in at bedtime and sleep. Carpet's dry and the chemical smell is gone. Planning to go to church tonight with some friends at their church, so looking forward to that. How are you doing? Do you have any family nearby?

I cannot stand the smell of the products they use either. I hope you can sleep in your bed and not need to find a motel.

We stayed out in the shack until bedtime, then it was okay. Chemicals bother me, too.

The chemical seems stronger than last time, maybe he used too much.

I once spent the night on our deck in a sleeping bag to escape the fumes of some chemical or another that my husband used. Chemical smells tend to give me migraines.

I understand. One night my nose ran the whole night long while sleeping. I realized I had put new sheets on the bed before washing them. Never again!

@1creekgirl My son has gotten a rash from new socks. I try to pre-wash everything that comes into my house.

@1creekgirl I'm right with you about that self checking nonsense. I prefer to deal with a real live human as I always tell the air traffic controller with the headphones in the supermarkets when she tries to get me to use a robot and shouts at me to get a move on. Best way to get me to go slow.

Good for you for boycotting Walmart. I dislike so much they do but still keep supporting them. They're just so convenient. Maybe I'll get around to boycotting them some day.

Well, that sucks that you can't go in the house after getting your carpets cleaned. At least you made the best of it.

I don't like the self check outs either and do not use them. I hope you enjoy the rest of the afternoon and that the chemical smell is gone in time for dark.

Soon you'll be able to enjoy the good ole smell of clean carpet but for now it sounds like you're making the best of an inconvenience. I also dislike going to Walmart and I refuse to use the self checkouts. I'll stand in line and wait my turn - thank you very much. I guess they're trying anything to cut down on their costs.
