Today, in the news, there was an announcement of yet another hominid found in a cave in the Philippines. Every once in a while, archeologists discover bone parts of extinct monkeys. They are supposed to belong to the Ho mo and so be our ancient cousins. Years ago, I was very excited. I had learned at school about the different Ho mos and that we were Ho mo Sapiens Sapiens. I even read about Lucy, our grandma, a small monkey that was named that way because when it was discovered someone was singing The Beatles“ 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds'. That little monkey was almost a scientific miracle. But after a while I did not want to listen to more cousins or more dates for the end of the world. I want to live my little life happy, with my small happy moments and sorrows. And I think that that“s all there is to it.

I still think it's really exciting! All the different sub-species or species, who have intrebred with who, how did they get so far etc. And it's a bit sad that there's none of them left, so we can't ever talk to our cousins. But as there's DNA of several of them in us, they live on in some way

I remember reading about Lucy some years ago, it was fascinating to me that her bones survived for so long. I always thought that bones deteriorated into the soil after a few centuries
