Those Beautiful Pine Trees

We just got back from our short trip to Baguio City - The City of Pines here in the Philippines. It's my first time to visit the place since 1995! And oh boy so much has changed. The city has become polluted (air pollution and dumped garbage bags), and traffic has become worse. Sadly it's no longer the Baguio that I used to know and love. On a more positive note though, I was really happy to see those beautiful pine trees again and the majestic mountains with the lovely ombre effect. I could've stayed for a bit longer just to stare at the wonderful scenery. My kids were so in awe of the fog! Somehow the long drive up to the Mountain Province was worth it. I would also love to go back and buy more fresh fruits and vegetables. We got to bring home a kilo of fresh strawberries, some broccoli, lettuce and cauliflower too. When we visit places we used to love we are often disappointed. Few things or places stay the same.

I asked to my husband never to go back to places we visited more than 20 years ago. It is too sad to see what they are now.

All the places change, they change too much, too many people, too many tourists, too many hotels and big apartment complex. I hate to see the places I loved and see what they became.

That is true. It's never the same. It's nice to have tourists, but I would prefer that tourists adjust to the way of life in the place rather than be pampered and given what they like.

@almostoveryou I fully agree with you. If some places became famous, it's because they are beautiful as they are, nobody should change what is naturally beautiful.

Sadly it is becoming overcrowded already. The place may still be colder than the rest of the country but you are right pollution due to the increase number of vehicles roaming around the city and the population is also causing the place from becoming what it is now. But still I see Baguio as really nice place to stay in especially at this point in time where we are in the middle of summer heat. This is an ideal place to hide from the heat. No matter how you say they are polluted air is still fresh there early in the morning since its on the mountain top and air pollution dissipates at night time and early morning.

I imagine Baguio to be over overcrowded at this time. Yes, it still is a nice place to come home to if you are working in Manila or somewhere else noisy. If not for the mountain view, I'd settle for what we have here that is Tagaytay.
