Our first fridge

Not everyone those days owned fridges and so when we decided to get one it was talk of the town. Neighbours, friends and family dropped in to see it and asked questions. I was in a mighty hurry to churn out desserts. I experimented with jelly, ice cream, blamanche, china grass, chocolate mousse, pineapple souffle, falooda you name it and I tried that. . The reason to get back from work as early as I could was so that I could just spend time preparing all those desserts each day a new one. I do not suppose any of you were as excited as I was

That also happened to us siblings when our father bought our first fridge, as a family. He always would buy ice cream or make one like that in the picture made from slices of bananas and strawberries bought from the supermarket or those canned lychees.

When I was young I think TV sets were a thing of fancy on my place. You will be taken as simply rich already when you have this and neighbor would usually flock into your house when watching a TV show at night.

We had that experience as well. We were the first ones and all kids gathered at our place. It was a black and white.

Same same in my grandma's house, the sala was filled with people sitting on the floor, mostly men if there was a boxing match, families when it's movies and children when it's cartoons ( Popeye). I remember the cabinet type TV and the brand was "Radiowealth"

My grandmother was one of the first to have a refrigerator in our neighborhood in old Manila, the brand was Frigidaire, the funny thing was on the inside door there was a big plastic button shaped like a life saver with the words " LIFE SAVER" I remember my aunt telling me to push that button if I get accidentally locked inside people were so ignorant of refs that they could actually get accidentally locked imside, the locks were hard metal unlike magnets used today.

I have always seen a refrigerator in the kitchen of my parents, since I was a very little girl. I can say I grew up with a refrigerator in the house, nothing really exciting about the fact to have one. I even remember the brand of the old one "Zoppas", I remember because my father offered our old fridge to my grandparents when we bought a bigger one and my grandparents still had it when I was already married

@allknowing I do not know when refrigerators became a normal appliance in Italy, surely later than in the United States.

haha I was not fascinated to prepare special dishes when we bought our first fridge. It was just for keeping the water to get cold water then keep the milk and vegetable for not spoiling in summer season. I can guess about your excitement.
