I can't sing

I have never been a particularly good singer and I've never pretended to be good. That being said I love musicals and find myself horribly belting along to them. I have bought the sing along versions of some of my favorites much to my husband's discontent. I am usually nice enough to sing along when he's not around because I'm nice like that. One day I was belting along to the new Mama Mia soundtrack and my son walks in and loudly asks "are you ok?!" I couldn't help I lost it. I was laughing so hard and told him that I was just fine. I'm fairly certain that the upstairs neighbor's dog was probably howling due to being able to hear me through their floor. I have a knock policy in place that my son clearly dismissed as he barged in. I told him maybe next time he'd learn to knock first so as not to hear my horrible voice. The funny thing is most of the time he claims to love when I sing to him. I used to sing him to sleep as a baby (maybe he was pretending to sleep to get me to stop who knows) and he has asked me to sing to him ever since because it's my voice and no matter how horrible it is I think it comforts him but this particular day my voice was even worse than usual. I also had a cold on top of things so it sort of added to it. My husband can't sing either and we often joke about how bad the other sings. When I think back to when I was in my early 20s I often remember how my friends and I would take mini road trips and sing horribly in unison. We all knew we sounded horrible but didn't care. I feel like sometimes you just need to let the music take over and just sing horribly at the top of your lungs because life is too short to care what others think. I feel like sometimes you just need those little moments in life that stay with you like singing horribly at the top of your lungs with friends to the point you make dogs howl and you need to not care because those are some of the best memories in life. I may not be able to sing but I know that sometimes in life it shouldn't be about how well you do something but be about having fun and letting go. I will never be a singer and that's ok but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy those things even if I'm not great at them. I can't carry a tune to save my life but I can enjoy the little moment's life brings and that's what matters most.

I agree. Singing is fun and if you like to sing, you should. I used to sing in the choir growing up in Church. We all had a great time and nobody said ugly things to another about how bad they sang. Overall, as a group, we sounded great and that was what mattered. Years later in my adulthood, I would go to adult choir every so often. I don't sing super good and I don't sing super bad. I've been asked to sing solos and duets but never did due to my shyness. However, after one night at rehearsal, one of the choir members kept asking who was singing off key? He would interrupt the choir director and I just felt this was over the top rude. There were several of us that were not "regulars" so I have no clue who he was talking about. Either way, I didn't go back after that. I say sing, girlfriend!

That is pretty rude. I have never really cared that I don't sing well but I still don't like singing in front of many people. I don't even like to talk to a lot of people in general so singing is definitely something I wouldn't be comfortable with doing in front of a lot of people. I sing because I like to not because I'm good at it. I love music and when I hear music it just sort of comes out of me and I don't even realize it. It's not even that I love to sing as much as I love music.

If singing is what you love and if it makes you happy then sing your heart out! Maybe not in public but you should be able to do that in your own home and your husband or kids should not have an issue with that or make fun of you for it. I love to sing as well. I usually don't sing around hubby but it's because I am hesitant about it not because he tells me to stop. I don't think he ever told me to stop. I definitely don't have perfect pitch but don't think I am a horrible singer. You probably aren't either.

My husband and son don't make fun of me my husband and I tease each other out of good fun but it's not mean. I assure you I am a horrible singer lol. It's less that I like to sing and more that I love music and it just comes out of me when I hear music. My husband has never really told me to stop but he gives me looks lol. I really don't even realize I am singing sometimes it's something that happens when music starts playing sometimes.

@sissy15 I guess I have to take your word for it since I don't have proof of you singing.

I say do what you love to do even if you're not good. It's all about what makes you happy.

A lot of people can't. I never really cared that I couldn't. I mean I'd love to be able to sing well but some of us aren't blessed with that gift lol.
