Eating Hot Cross Buns in New Zealand

Today is Good Friday here in New Zealand, probably a day ahead of most of you on myLot, as here in southern hemisphere NZ we greet the new day first in the world. Seasons are different too. It's a magnificent autumn morning. The sun is shining, the sky a hazy blue and there doesn't appear to be a breeze at all. The temperatures are definitely cooler now though than they were a few weeks ago. We've had a feed of hot cross buns this morning. I gave up making my own many years ago and now purchase them from a small family bakery in my neighbourhood. These are much nicer and larger than those you can purchase in the supermarket, and look similar to the ones in the image here. We love eating them heated up in the oven and then cut in half and smothered with butter. I know, butter is not good for us, but it does make those hot buns so delicious. We have a relaxed holiday weekend ahead, spending some of it with friends and family. But right now I'm about to make coffee, the perfect follow-up to the buns we've just eaten. They do look good. I'm glad you enjoyed them and followed them up with coffee. We're still in cooler temps here, but warming up for the weekend. Easter is looking like a very nice day. I hope you have a wonderful Easter.

I too like the season of Autumn just before the winters. I did had some Hot cross buns way back in 2005-06 in England, but due to my taste buds acclimatization, I did not like their taste much. I hope that you enjoyed your Easter.

They do look good. In high school I used to work in a bakery and was allowed to eat anything I wanted. For some reason, I never did eat those hot cross buns. Drat! I hope you had a lovely Easter.

Butter does add up to the taste and I am sure that a hot cup of coffee will be a great thing to company with these buns. Have a happy Easter.
