Good Friday, and It's So Silent

It is Good Friday morning here, and it is so silent, unlike in the past days when you can hear lots of vehicles passing by, or people talking.
I woke up to the chirping of birds, then to a voice of a woman chanting the "Pasyon," (book about the Passion of Jesus Christ.)
It is being sung in some houses here during or before the Holy Week. There are groups of men and women who alternately sing each paragraph of the Pasyon. They do not stop until the whole book is finished, so it normally takes a day and whole night chanting it.
Other than that chanting sound, it is so silent, as if all the people are observing the Passion of Christ in very solemn mood. No one is listening to the radio or videoke, no one is working, and many people just go to different churches to pray.
This is a religious tradition I wanted to share with you.

It is usually the chirping birds that wake me up in the morning; or if my cat meows so early at dawn trying to call my attention.

It is not yet for Easter; just for the Holy Week. On Easter, it would be back to being so happy and noisy around here!

We failed to join the Procession because we could not go out earlier because the sun is shining so hot.

It's a good thing to know when people observe the solemnity of the season. I have observed this when I was still working in Manila. It is different in the provinces because this is the time when people from the city would troop to the provinces.
