This one is what New York is well known for. This place is historic one since it looks like the island was the first entry point to New York and the whole of Americas back then. The statue is one big icons of NY. That’s why I didn’t hesitate to visit the place because it’s part of NY.

I have not had the luck to see it. Bartholdi was French, and we have a lot of bronze copies of small size, but only a handful were made by Bartholdi himself. It was the case of this one in Bordeaux, removed by the Germans in 1941 to be melted. What you see is a resin copy at the same place than the original.

@rsa101 All were made in Paris. This one is about 3 m high, a dwarf compared to the statue in New-York.

@topffer I think there is a tall one in Colmar, the native city of Bartholdi.

There is no place like New York City, including the Statue of Liberty. My son and grandchildren live there as do other family members and love it. If you visit, let me know. We don't live far from NYC.

@rsa101 That is nice. I visited New York a long long time ago. I had relatives in New York and visited the World's Fair. I do not remember it. I was so much younger then.

I heard the statue of Liberty was a gift of the French government to the US. France used to be allied with the US when the latter sought independence from Great Britain, a known French rival in the 18th century. The statue of liberty buttresses this strong alliance.

Everything starts with a dream. Just hold onto it and it may be given to you someday. I didn’t expect it myself that my sister would invite me to her place one of these days.
