Goodness gracious! What a shock! Oh, sure, you had “Burning Down the House” pegged, but I’ll bet you didn’t see this one coming as the favorite “fire” song. There’s a reason for that: you probably don’t even know this song. Oh, but I do, and I love it. #1: The Fourth Man in the Fire - Dailey & Vincent I’ll give you an asterisk for this one, because the original title, when Arthur Smith wrote it, was just “The Fourth Man.” The “in the fire” got added along the line, and it does appear as the “official” title on the album. And wow, what a song. A country gospel tune, also recorded by the likes of Johnny Cash and the Statler Brothers, tells about the three Hebrew men thrown into a fiery furnace by an irate king whom they refused to worship (see Daniel, chapter 3). They held fast (“they held on to the will of God so we are told, they would not bow their knees to the idol made of gold”). The song has always been upbeat, but hey, Dailey and Vincent are bluegrass singers, so they kicked it into overdrive. Thanks for reading. The Fourth Man in the Fire Written by Arthur Smith Recorded by Dailey & Vincent From The Gospel Side of Dailey & Vincent, 2012 They wouldn’t bend, they wouldn’t bow, they wouldn’t burn:
Lyrics to be added soon. I DO NOT OWN THE SONG OR PICTURE! THEY BELONG TO DAILEY AND VINCENT!

I have a better curve ball than Homer Bailey, don’t I? (Then again, a 98-year-old guy in a nursing home does as well!)

Well, you're right, I've never heard this one. Not bad for folksy stuff.
