How many hours you can ‘fast’ in a day?

Fasting is a process to help our body to rejuvenate. Our body needs time to repair as well so fasting helping to make this process easy. I have watched a video, according to that video; if we ate food at 8 pm then we need to eat again on next day at 12 noon. So 16 hours fasting will be there and it helps the body to get time for repairing as well after the digestion process. We can have water or vegetable juice in between but no milk, fruit juice etc. I don’t think I can fast that much longer time. In fact, I never kept any fast completely. I am afraid of it because when I feel hungry, I could not eat then my body started to tremble. That is the reason I am afraid of keeping fast. Do you keep fasts? If yes, how often? What about keeping our body starving long time on regular basis? Good or bad?

@MALUSE Yes, we are doing fast for being healthy. When health is not good then it is not necessary to keep fasting.

Muslims show that it is possible to fast from sunrise to sunset. They do that every year during the month of Ramadan. I haven't heard that they all become ill.

I keep fast once in a year on LAKSHMI puja. That is from morning to evening. After the PUJA is complete then only I break my faat by drinking water. Too long gaping is not good for health.

I used to skip lunch often when working when I needed to leave early to take kids to doctor appointment or some other event. I didn't eat breakfast back then so this would be a fasting period. I wouldn't fast because I need energy/fuel to maintain my metabolism. This also would not work for diabetics.

@Sreekala For children it is recommended only up to half a day, and if they are able, they can also full fasting.

I usually eat dinner early. After dinner, it is only water until I wake up the next day. I also try to drink warm lemon water when I wake up in the morning

You must be right. We will get used with the same then. I have had some complications but I think that with the type of food I ate after fasting.
