Buckets

United States
April 26, 2019 2:09pm CST
We've all (or mostly all of us) have heard the phrase "It's raining buckets" which just mean it's raining quite a lot. Well, today it is raining buckets in an entirely different way. This is how I am imagining it. A group of Frenchmen are on the top of a castle in the sky. They heave buckets full of rain down on us but eventually run out. They have to restock before heaving even more buckets down on us. It has "rained buckets" off and on the past few hours. It's clearing up now, and the wind is blowing. I am not sure if this is the last we will see of the rain today. Why Frenchmen? Monty Python That's why.

There are storms out there, but so far we just had one 15 minute shower. I am gonna have to look at the radar.

We've heard it's supposed to be worse for you guys in Virginia. My uncle drove up to his girlfriend's who lives in VA. She's closer to Danbury then she is to Richmond though, which I think is supposed to be worse.

I had never heard that saying before, but thank you for explaining it for the ones who did not know about it. I have heard "It's raining cats and dogs" before when I was studying English. I do not know if it's still used, or the new way of saying it is the one that you wrote.

Both phrases are used, but "Raining cats and dogs" is used more.

It isn't raining anymore here but it's certainly windy. I think we might get more rain tonight, or so I've been told.

@ScribbledAdNauseum another miserable, gray, rainy day. Parts of the province are experiencing their annual spring flooding on steroids. Now why would anyone build on floodplain?

@Morleyhunt It's bright and shiny here, I actually haven't looked at the weather for today. I do know it's supposed to be warmer, but only because my phone told me so. People have built in some very odd places over the years. I do not know why anyone would want to build in an easily, and heavily flooded area.

I grew up hearing "it's raining cats and dogs", instead. It's been the same way here, though, today. along with very strong winds and thunder.

I've heard it both ways, but "raining cats and dogs" is more popular.

@ScribbledAdNauseum i'm sure it also depends on what area you're in.

Lots of others are having rain too. Sunshine and wind here.

The wind kicked up a lot today. We went out to eat and came home to the clocks needing re-set. Apparently the power went out again.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yikes, I hope you don't have bad weather. Stay safe. And I hope the power stays on.

@CarolDM It hasn't flicked since we've been here, it must have flicked shortly after my uncle left, the house was only empty for about an hour, so it must have happened between then.

I am not sure why it exists either, but it's certainly a funny little phrase.

I love the rain, but despise it when it makes travel difficult.
