50 years ago half a million people converged on the small farming community of Bethel, NY. What was expected to be a weekend of fun for 80,000 music lovers and most of the time the biggest names in music turned out to be a disaster of legendary perportions.
But legends are what keep us going so the festival has become the ultimate concert ever.
So it stands to reason there should be an amazing celebration on the 50th Anniversary...but the promoters who were all about doing it have cancelled it.
Why? Mostly out of concerns they can't prevent what made the original so legendary from happening again.
Too bad. It really does deserve a 50th celebration.

I always thought that Woodstock was a huge success. Why do you say it was a failure?

It was both. It was huge success in that it happened at all. It was a dismal failure in all the things that went wrong. The state of New York had to declare a disaster. The New York Army National Guard was called out for medical evacuation and security. The food services and bathroom facilities provided both failed. Electrical equipment on stage wasn't set up properly, injuring musicians. Hendrix was supposed to close the show Sunday Night, but ended up playing long after most people left, on Monday morning....

@ParaTed2k I thought the movie they made was pretty good. That must have made some good money.

@1hopefulman Yeah there were a few good documentaries and albums from it. Around 10 years after the festival it actually turned a profit. However it wouldn't have if the promoters had to foot the bill for all it ended up costing everyone.

They needed at least $20 million more after already investing $30 million? Can you imagine what those ticket prices would have been????

Yeah, the people providing the major funding have backed out. We'll see what actually happens.

Yes it is. I hope something grassroots and spontaneous happens to celebrate.
