How to keep yourself up and alert

I’m at work but I’m really sleepy though I slept for 7-8 hours last night. Is it siesta time by 2-4pm? I’m not sure but it’s usually the time that I feel really sleepy at work. How do you wake yourself up when you’re really sleepy at work? I tried eating but I still feel sleepy. Maybe it’s my hormones? Edit: I forgot that I can listen to upbeat music. Let me try it now.

Thanks! Coffee is good, it’s what some of my colleagues do however my body doesn’t like coffee very much. Makes me palpitate a bit.

@weevee18 i was like that before but regular consumption of brewed coffee keeps me alive. Brewed coffee is better than instant.

When I feel sleepy, I usually drink a coffee and move a bit, splashing water on my face helps.

@weevee18 If you cannot stand coffee I think you should try to move and splash your face.

They say coffee really helps on waking our senses when we feel sleepy. Coffee, however, doesn’t do this to me. It makes me a little dizzy and sometimes I palpitate so I avoid it. Moving my body and splashing water on my face is a good suggestion thanks!

I think employees should be allowed to stand up and roam around for a short break after long hours on the desk. This will keep the mind awake.

I think so too. You know sometimes I daydream of having a time at work where all employees are required to stand and do some stretching.

This always happens to me! I always feel sleepy when I'm working! Try to drink some coffee, it might work but sometimes it isn't, or probably depends on what coffee are you going to drink! Or you can stand up for a while and do some stretching and walk for a while to make yourself awake! If not, try to wash your face with water, if this still not working, I slap my face, but not so hard just enough strength to hurt myself, and the last one, I've done this when I was a student and I feel so very sleepy because the class is very boring, I keep on biting my tongue as hard as I can, because pain can make me wakes up! I'm going to bite it for the entire of the class to make sure that I'm still awake, oh I remember another one! I pinched my legs or one of my fingers to feel the pain! It might work, or it might not, but I'm doing those things to make myself awake! You can try any of those but the most powerful is hurting myself so that I can feel the pain and stay awake, after I feel that, I'm already awake, but I've done that when I was young and studying at school, nowadays I do light things like coffee, walking, stretching, washing face or slapping my face but not much hard.

@weevee18 Haha yeah, you're right! But when I go to bed, I can't even sleep! Oh yeah! I always do church in the morning, around 4 am, and I can't even stop looking at my watch! There's a time that I left my watch at home but I'm still looking for a way to check the time! "My girlfriend has a watch so I always look at her watch" Haha! I'm working right now and I don't feel sleepy since I just took my break, but I know after a few minutes I know I'll feel sleepy again! Haha!

@tech40 I sure relate to not being sleepy when it’s time to sleep geez Good thing your girlfriend has a watch. What about the time on your mobile phone? Or you don’t bring it at church?

Right? Why does work make us sleepy? I’m totally going to try your suggestions. Thank you for giving me a lot of options to help wake myself up at work. I just remember, biting my tongue is what I usually do when I feel sleepy at church. I know I shouldn’t be sleepy at church but trust me I try my best however when the homily is too long or the priest’s voice is soothing, I can’t help it.

That time is really tough for me too. I just took a nap, I'm still on vacation but I will have to face that as well once I go back to work.
