Thunder and Lightning and Boom: Light's OUT!

I'll be so glad when these Spring storms are all over and we can get used to the normal afternoon thundershowers that don't last long. We woke up to rain, rain, and more rain along with thunder and lightning. The power was out by 10:00 am and that let to a rather lazy day. While I don't mind this kind of day every now and then, all this rain is getting to be a little too much. We had a very lazy day today. My husband slept the day away. I spent my time reading and I also took advantage of a long nap. Our lights did not come back on until after 3:00 p.m and at that time I popped a ham into the oven for dinner. What do you do on bad weather days when you lose electricity? Photo: Pixaby, public domain

Whenever a thunderstorm comes up I always pray that the electricity holds out I work on writing online and an outage would be a disaster for me especially if it could not be fixed quickly.

Yep, not much else to do here but read when the power goes out.

when we first moved to Maryland we had outages all the time. We ended up getting a generator, so it doesn't matter anymore. Our lights are never out.

@kareng I tell you what, when all the neighbors come over during an outage, we are the most popular family in the area!

@DocAndersen I bet. My neighbors are about a mile away so I doubt they would even catch on.

Not much to do. It's hard to read; and when I try to sleep I can't. If we have a portable radio we listen to music and wait for the power to go back on. I have a power recliner now; so if the power goes out I'm stuck in the chair!

Right you need to be by a window to read if not too dark outside. I have two new little LED lights that are rechargeable that I have been using this week. I keep one in my laundry room for quick runs in there. I actually left one on the inside of the dryer door and "dried it" with the clothes. I charged it and it still worked, yay :)

@LindaOHio I was shocked that it still worked. At least it didn't go into the washer :)

Yes, this rain every day is getting old really fast. When the power goes out I get my power station ready to run if need be and then I will either read or watch the storm or take a nap like you did.

I normally pick up a book. I need to get the front porch all prepped for summer. For light showers and uneventful rain, I like to sit outside and just enjoy the fresh air.

@Bensen32 Very nice and relaxing watching the birds and the squirrels; just need a glass of ice tea in the summertime to top it off with.

I usually read. I'm always reading a book. I have a stack at all times of the next ones to read and I'm continually adding to it.

The thunder doesn't get to me near as bad as lightning does.

@Nevena83 Yep, I hate when they happen together. Means it is close. And so scary.

@kareng Yes, the lightning is more dangerous, but the sound scares me.

When the power is out it sucks. Daytime I will leave, night suffer from cold or heat.

I don't mind at all with nice temperatures. I do hate it most during the cold winter months. Luckily it doesn't happen too often in the winter.

I have plenty of candles here and also three big lanterns. So light is not a problem. That is a good idea on the solar lights.
