A lucky dog gets adopted after 6.5 years inside of a kennel

If there is one good story that comes from the Humane Society of Preble County which is in Ohio, it is the story of Higgins who is a male German Shepherd that defied the odds of not being put down since after 2,381 days inside of the animal shelter, he was not adopted by anyone after he came to the shelter as a puppy in 2012.
However due to the power of social media, Brendon Reed, 22, saw the pictures of Higgins who was available to be adopted despite the fact that no one wanted a senior dog as their pet.
Reed went to the Humane Society of Preble County in Ohio to tell Leslie Renner who is the executive director of the shelter that Higgins was going to be his pet for life.
After Higgins received the good news that he was adopted, his friendship with Brendon has been a match made in Heaven.

Oh that is so nice that the god got adopted. Maybe the timing was not perfect. I hope his new owner treats him right and love him.

@jvicentevalera Majority of dogs get adopted when they are either puppies or at least one year of age. In the case of Higgins, he was considered too old.

It is so nice to hear that the dog finally got a new home. Many people want a younger dog, but I am happy to hear that the right owner showed up. I already have a dog, but I also would be willing to adopt a senior dog if I was looking for a dog to adopt.

@Deepizzaguy It is great that he found a new home at your place. We have had our dog since he was a puppy, but one of my friends adopted a dog that was several years old.

I do remember adopting a dog that was older than one year of age whose name was Thunder who lived ten years before he passed away due to old age.

6 years in captivity does suck..but yes he is very very lucky he didn't get put down.some shelters only give the poor animals a week if that.

What a very kind story! Just look at Higgin's face. Higgins has the most warm little fur face! Glad the little guy is adopted to a loving human for him!

Higgins sure did and what a lucky dog didn't get put down for not being adopted too. Well it's a happy ending for such a sweet looking dog!
