Hope you trivia responders are not tired yet! We have reached the half-way point in our music series with songs using an exercise term in the title. So let's keep moving or as Fats Domino would say "I'm walking."
This song title provides a great quiz clue although the lyrics were about Fats just tryin to get his lady back. Now, enjoy this golden oldie as you look over the following trivia clues...
Wasn't that a great tune (thumbs up) OK, IT'S TRIVIA TIME!!!
Whodunnit? Do you know these songs and artists:
1. The songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal Davis wrote this tune. The lyrics about a woman asking her former lover to leave her alone. The tune was actually the B-side of this artist's single release. New York DJ Murray The K played this song over the record company's objections because he knew this was a hit. He was right! This female artist started her recording career singing in the background of a few Drifters songs. She is the niece of Cissy Houston and cousin of Whitney Houston. "Alfie" and "Anyone Who Had a Heart" were two other songs which were big hits for this artist.
2. This Country music star had her first big hit with this tune. The 1957 song was a crossover hit, charting at #2 Country and #12 Pop, and established this artist as a Country singer capable of mainstream success. This tune was a tale of loneliness and lost love. The woman in the song's lyrics reflected on what happened by taking a stoll at midnight under the moonlight. In 1961, she was presented with a song by a young songwriter, Willie Nelson. Nelson said in a documentary on this artist's life that her interpretation of his song is his favorite cover of any of his tunes. Tragically, after performing a benefit concert in Kansas City for DJ Cactus Jack Mc Call, she died in a plane crash returning to Tennessee. It was due to flying in inclement weather.
Bonus- Fats Domino's video song launched the music career of this artist who had 34 Top 40 hits in the U.S. between 1957-1964. His version was released just a few months after Domino's and reached the same chart position at #4. This singer was performing on a very popular TV series at the time, and this hit helped him get signed to record for Imperial records, the same label as Fats Domino.
Do you know the name of this artist?
