I have to duct tape my sunglasses

United States
May 11, 2019 8:41pm CST
The handle of my sunglasses broke the other day. I duct taped (I have black duct tape that matches the handle of the sunglasses) them the other day but I am going to have to do it again. Okay, I paid $5.99 for them and so I could easily get another pair, but it's the principle of the thing. I'm going to duct tape them until I can get some glue to glu them. Yeah, I'm "redneck".... Anyway, I just thought about that tonight. I have a very early morning tomorrow and so I need to do it now before I go to bed.

Have you tried super glue? It works! I had to super glue my wooden board that's on my sewing machine. I looked at the board and hoped it works...and it worked. I've used super glue for my ceramic tea pot cover, it worked. Locite is the one for plastics. Good luck.

This is just a temporary fix until I can get super glue.

@oahuwriter Okay, thank you. I will look into it. Though I may end up just getting a new pair, I am not yet sure.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I was reading about it and the article said only certain super glues works on plastic and it was Locite that works with plastic. Not all super glues works with plastics.

That's something I would totally do . The actual sunglass part is perfectly fine . . . and no one's going to scrutinize the handle part . . . so why not fix it and get use out of them until it's completely falling apart, right?

@ScribbledAdNauseum I'd especially want to keep a great pair of sunglasses as long as I could. 5.99 is 5.99 - inexpensive or not I'd rather not pay for another one .

Exactly! They are a perfectly good pair of sunglasses. I don't think anyone will really be able to tell, especially if I keep my hair down. So why not?

Hey, I used the auto equivalent of super glue to try and glue my car’s bumper back together!

See? You don't have to go to the mechanics for something like that.. Atleast not until you try the home fix first.

You do what you have to do. You can probably tape them in such a way no one will notice anyway.

I hate when that happens. with me it seems like takes forever to get used to another pair.

I think I am going to end up just getting another pair... I didnt' use mine today, but then it was too overcast. I feel like I'll constantly be duct taping them. I"m not sure if super glue will work for these.

If it is still repairable then we must do something about it.

@LadyDuck I am going to try it. I will take my sunglasses with me today but it's overcast and rainy. I don't think I'll need them, but my eyes can be sensitive to light.

I am going to get some glue and glue it. The only problem is that I will not be able to bend the sunglasses shut, bu that's okay. A family member suggested I take the wire from a bread tie or garbage bag tie and cut it to fit into the hole. That might work.

Nothing wrong with a little duct tape. It works wonders for a lot of different things

That it does! I grew up with the "If duct tape don't fix it, try WD-40" attitude.

@CookieMonster46 I mean, stuff like that works to a certain extent. Somethings, however, you just need to replace. Different generations though, different ideals.

@ScribbledAdNauseum well my father does that with anything that breaks, that is his way of fixing things.

That's not the point. I could buy a new pair now.
