With Mothers Day winding down I’ll start my list of favorite songs with “mother” (or mom or mama or mommy [everything except “Hey, you!”...so no BTO this time ]) in the title. While there may be an obscurity or two, there are also some very obvious entries on the list, and why not start with one of those. #10: Mother and Child Reunion - Paul Simon One of Paul Simon’s classic hits, it was also Paul’s first post-Simon & Garfunkel hit. While this might sound like a glorious, deep, philosophical, and even spiritual song, Simon said (per Wikipedia) the title came from a menu: a chicken and egg dish. And hey, speaking of mothers, did you know Whitney Houston’s mother sang backup on this song? Nice tidbit about Cissy Houston singing backup. Love the upbeat reggae style rhythm with Paul's voice. The beginning musical intro is a terrific hook.
