Good morning. I hope you are all well today. I am rather tired but I am also very happy.
Yesterday, we Face-Timed with our girls - my partner's two daughters and two granddaughters. The daughters were at their mum's house with some of their other family.
I'd arranged to call C (eldest daughter) but K (youngest daughter) didn't know so she was surprised (pleasantly, I hope).
The granddaughters were a little shy with us. They don't really know us so that was understandable. That is, however, something we are trying to rectify - and was the point of the Face-Time, which we're hoping to make a regular thing.
I told my partner that I would love to get to a stage where the little ones look forward to our calls.
Anyway, we had a lovely chat. We talked for about 15 minutes. That might not seem very long but I wasn't expecting more than just a couple of minutes. I worried about it being awkward or not knowing what to say.
My partner hasn't always had a (good) relationship with his daughters, which also had a knock-on effect with being able to have a relationship with the grandchildren. So even though we're trying to build a relationship with all of them, we do still worry about things being awkward.
We needn't have worried, though. C and K seemed happy to hear from us. I know that C appreciates the effort that we are making.
K called the little ones (I call them Baby1 and Baby2 on here). She said 'it's Granddad D and Grandma Pumpkin' - well, she used our actual names but she did say Granddad and Grandma!
D had not wanted to push with being Granddad but he was over the moon when he had a 'Granddad' birthday card last year. That was his official moment of acceptance.
I was happy for the little ones to just call me by my name. K did call me 'auntie' to them. I didn't really like that - not all of my nieces and nephews call me auntie!
Anyway, a few minutes after we finished the call, I saw that C had posted on Facebook. This was my moment of acceptance as C wrote that the girls (her daughters/our granddaughters) had a lovely chat with 'their other nan and granddad' - I was very happy about this. I've always thought of the babies as my grandchildren (they are 5 and 3 years old, and there's another on the way). My other half was happy too. Not only for himself, for the situation, but because he knew how happy it had made me.
What special moments have you had recently?

No special moments at all? Have you had some enjoyable, relaxing time? I find that quite special sometimes :)
