Ok so what's the verdict on henna for hair.

I know that several lotters have used henna to dye their hair before. I've used it as well, atleast three times, but it's been quite awhile since I've used it. I've purchased henna that will turn my hair a shade of dark violet. I've had my hair this color before and liked it. It's not too obvious of a color.
So do you mix your henna with ACV? Conditioner? Or do you just follow the instructions on the package everytime? How long do you keep it in? 2 hours? 4 hours?
Have you ever used henna for your hair before?

Henna turns hair reddish so it must be combined with another plant called indigo, there are videos in the net on how to do it. Indigo use to be a Philippine export during colonial times but disappeared with the advent of synthetic dyes, combined with henna it would give a darker color.

I am not asking how to combine the henna to make the violet color. I am buying a kit that already has that in there. I am asking what people use with the henna. Some mix it with ACV as it's supposed to be good, other use conditioner. That is what I am asking, what do you mix with henna that is already ready for your hair.

@ScribbledAdNauseum sorry I didn't quite get it, I had used henna but not as a kit, just dried henna leaves in packs! Also a shampoo called black that claims to have henna but i don't know the other active components and it had already been pulled out of shelves, yes also dried indigo leaves too bought separately.

@louievill We can't get henna in those forms over here, atleast I don't believe we can. I've always had to buy a kit.The kit usually includes the henna (either plain or pre-mixed with indigo etc) and gloves. I have to go buy a shower cap that I can keep my hair in until I am ready to wash it.

I am sure it will turn out fine. This isn't the first time I've henna'd my hair. It will be the first time I've used the violet colored henna though. It might be a bit brighter or a bit duller than I originally though, but we will have to see once it gets delivered.

@FayeHazel I will take some as soon as I get it done. They've just shipped it, it would be nice if it arrive on Friday. I'd do it Saturday and take pictures that same day. I have to get a shower cap first. I'm hoping the dollar tree will have them.

I haven't but I have thought of it. My hair is gray now,,at least when I don't color it, but when I was younger it had a lot of red in it..although it usually looked brown, in the sun or certain light it always looked reddish. I had a boyfriend once who had red glints too..I was always thinking our hair looked exactly the same in the sun. Henna would have been a great fit,for both of us and would have looked very natural.

I love dyeing my hair red but I thought I'd try the more purplish tint and see how it reacted on the parts of my hair that are still red. It's mostly brown now.
There are so many different places to get henna now. I'm trying a kit I haven't tried before. The henna I usually get is the plain (so just red) or the kind that adds a little more red to it.

@snowy22315 I am sure I will. It won't be for a few days as the kit is coming through the mail. I think it's supposed to arrive by the 20th. I may not do it the same day it arrives, it just depends on how I feel. Our mail usually comes closer to the evening time and as you know, I'll have to keep it on my head for awhile.
I had some photos at one time of my first time trying henna. It was pretty but somewhat unsuccessful as I didn't buy enough henna for the length of my hair.

I know that we've talked about it before. I'll let you know my experience with it once I use it. It's been so long since I've used it that I don't recall everything. I know it was a laborious task to get it on my head. I will have to go to the dollar tree and look for a shower cap that I can wear.

That is what I have done in the past. I think I may leave it on a little longer than what is recommended this time, to see if the color develops a little more.

I never used henna because, as @louievill correctly says, it turns the hair reddish and this is not something I want.

Henna is a good thing compare to other coloring options. Well I just use the normal henna and follow the instructions on the packet
