Lily of the Valley... Doesn't Like Me Much!

When we were living in the Chicago area, the previous owners left behind some Lily of the Valley and I decided to dig up a few small plants and transfer them to the other side of the house... It had been pretty much neglected so I thought that they would look pretty over there. I spent the morning digging and transplanting and by lunch time I was pretty happy with myself... until I started to feel a little sick to my stomach. Nothing major, but just enough to make me notice. I think it passed by dinner but I had no idea what had caused it. I found out around bedtime... I decided to do a bit more research on Lily of the Valleys to see what you can do with the flowers... they did smell awesome and then I saw it!! Some people are allergic to the plant and it can make them ill... "use gloves when you come into contact with them! If I transplant any at this house... or even dig some up to share, I will be using gloves to do it!!

That's a good thing to know. I'm not allergic, I had them growing in my yard before we moved to an apartment.

I hope your stomach feels better. I always use sleeves when planting plants, but not because they are poisonous, but because of the earth.
