Back to 1979 we go! You’ve probably noticed a lot of these songs have become classic rock staples. For the rest of the countdown, with one very notable exception, I’ll be delving more into what I was listening to then. Not that I don’t like the songs I’ve already listed, mind you, but...well, you’ll see the difference as I move along. Starting here! #10: Brass in Pocket (I’m Special) - Pretenders This wasn’t exactly “punk,” but it certainly wasn’t the “commercial,” formulaic stuff that was taking over FM rock radio at the time. They called it “new wave,” and that would later encompass a lot of things. Spoiler alert: most of the remainder of the songs on the list are new wave, or new wave-ish. And ah, the Pretenders. This was their first success in the US. Driven by Chrissy Hynde’s powerhouse voice, “Brass in Pocket” sounded fresh in 1979. Still sounds fresh today! Brass in Pocket (I’m Special) Written by Chrissy Hynde and James Honeyman-Scott Recorded by the Pretenders From Pretenders, 1979 Gonna use my, my, my:
Genre: Alternative Style: Alternative Pop/Rock, Pop-Rock

Boy 1979 had some really good tunes! And this is another. Brass is an English term for money. And That song had some "Brass" or as the British and American listening audience might say, the tune was "Money"
