Thought of the day

May 23, 2019 7:18pm CST
What is wrong with people? What happened to being kind for no reason and not expecting anything in return? What brought this on your probably wondering? I was at work all day and a co worker asked me for $5 which she knows I don't have all bc she brought me a what I would think is a $1 water that I didn't ask for . Am I wrong for thinking she's nuts?

That's not cool. Why charge people for services or goods that you gave them without them asking for it. That's what you call a scam.

I do agree she just thought she's going to make some extra money.

@Frenchie2009 You didn't do anything wrong, so don't worry about it.

I hate scams like that. Like I've been to a funfair before and they charge 10 bucks for like a mineral water bottle. Like what the heck? Overcharging for something which costs like a mere 3 bucks elsewhere?

So was she trying to get a $5 payment for the water or was she just trying to borrow the $5 and was going to pay you back? If she was expecting you to pay $5 for water you never asked for, then yes she is nuts.

I guess getting older has gotten me more flat footed in my reactions. I would have looked at her and the bottle of water and told her that I didn't want the bottle of water and didn't have the $5, so she would need to find the person she thought wanted the water and get the money from them as it certainly wasn't me. When I do things for others I don't expect payment for what I do. A neighbor wants to get a feral cat for outside his place and asked if I could feed it and make it adjusted to living around his house to take care of the mice and rats. He told me he would pay me for my time and I told him that there was no way he would pay me. I would be happy to help him out. It's the same way with helping others out. I carry a few extra dollar bills with me so that I can give them to the homeless to help them out. I do this to help them out and it makes me feel good to be able to help them. I really can't afford it but I make adjustments in my budget to accomplish having the extra dollars. I agree with the others, your fellow worker was pulling a scam with the bottle of water....a glass of water from the faucet is free!

@Frenchie2009 Actually in my area it's getting to the time of year that you can get a 36 pack for $2.50. Or do like we do and save our water bottles and refill them at Starbucks for free. They have wonderful filtered water that you can get for free. Have one that you keep in your desk drawer and when you get to work set it on your desk. I'm the kind of person that doesn't hesitate to tell the person that I am on a very tight budget and $5 for a bottle of water just doesn't fit in it and I am sure that anyone's relations wouldn't see it in their budget to pay that much for a bottle of water as the most I've ever seen for a bottle is a dollar.

@BearArtistLady I do have a metal reusable water bottle it was just in my cooler purse to stay cold

Elegantly put. I've been at my wits end money wise and she knows this when she brought it to me I thought oh she's trying to be nice and make me feel better but no she was like I got you a water you owe me $5for it knowing I'm skint and stretched money wise. I told her I didn't want it I didn't ask for it and she can't expect me to pay for something like that. I told her I'm more than happy to drink out of the faucet. She acted like I insulted her whole ancestral line she was like your so selfish I Do something nice for you. I told her she needs to look that word up in the dictionary bc her definition is wrong. I'm all for paying it forward and she just rubbed me the wrong way and knowing my situation. Besides who pays $5for 1 bottle of water you can get a 24pk from Wal-Mart for like $3.50
