What Do You Like to Read

My favorite pass time is reading. I love mysteries and true crime stories. I believe our taste changes over the years. I used to enjoy fantasies and science fiction and weird stories such as Stephen King's. Sad to say I lost my fondness for Stephen King when I read "The Dome". It was a huge disappointment. Another favorite is Sue Grafton. I've read all her books and sometimes read them over again. I was sorry to hear of her death. I always wanted one more book from that lady. Do you enjoy reading? Who is your favorite author?

I love to read. I have wide reading tastes. I read a lot of nonfiction on nature, politics, biography, religion, and history. I also like true crime, mysteries, and fiction about how people in families relate to each other, such as the books in the Rosemont series. My new favorite legal thriller writer is Randy Singer. I like him better now than my old favorite, John Grisham. As I was looking through my bookshelves and some unshelved boxes I brought over from the other house recently, I came to the sad conclusion that I will never have time to read all the wonderful books I have around the house in the time I have left, let alone the ones on my Kindle. I don't understand why I keep getting more.

Like me, you're addicted to books. I have many books to read and still I gather in more. My shelves are full and books are stacked everywhere. I like John Grisham too. I don't believe I've read Randy Singer. I'll look for something of his.

I should, after all his books I've loved. I shouldn't let one disappointment deprive me of more good books.

@LadyDuck I read it from beginning to end but it didn't sound like Steven King to me and I couldn't believe he wrote the book.

These days, I look at the title and back cover to determine if I'll like the book. Mostly I read novels of no particular genre. I like historical fiction. I like novels with some depth to them. If it's a skinny 300-page book, it typically doesn't interest me.

Usually a book of 300 pages isn't enough story to get interested in .I like longer involved stories.

@RubyHawk I have a friend and a place where I used to see her she would give me books to read and Sue Grafton was one of the authors. I love reading. I have loved a lot of authors but cannot remember most of them. I do love Fay Kellerman's books but think her husband's books are boring.

I seldom read, but when I do, I like to read from authors whom keep me glued to the pages and can't wait to fnd out what happens next. Some of my favorites are Douglas Kennedy, John Grisham, Danielle Steel and Julie Garwood.

That's what I like, something to keep me interested in what happens next. But usually when I begin a book I will struggle to the end even if it isn't especially interesting.

@RubyHawk Same here for me. If the plot appears to be too made up or doesn't flow naturally, I will lose interest in reading it till finish..

My choice is research journals, medical text books and alternative health books. Sounds odd to some but these are fascinating to me. Some we own that were printed in 1917 are especially interesting. People are told how to use food to cure illnesses. We've all heard food should be our medicine.

I might get to the same point one day but I hope not. I get a lot of satisfaction from books,.I finished a book today about a woman who suffered from schizophrenia from childhood. Interesting and sad, but I learned a lot from it. I love mysteries too.I don't have the time to read that I would like.

I like realistic fiction or autobiographies. But mostly I have been reading Japanese manga because they are just so fun and I need inspiration for my own work. For books, I adored Ned Vizzini and Ellen Hopkins was a staple for me when I was a teenager.

@RubyHawk Oh I totally understand haha Those are just the authors that I lived and breathed in high school and still pop in to reread from time to time. Japanese Manga are graphic novels! Or like comic books but they are created in Japan. They are a lot of fun to read haha

As a child, and then a teenager, I only read fiction. As an adult, for some reason I changed to reading only nonfiction. I will read anything by Atul Gawande, as his medical based books are fascinating. I have gotten several people to love his books. I like books by A.J. Jacobs, best known for writing "The Year of Living Biblically". In addition, Mary Roach writes about different subjects in great detail, such as space, or life in the morgue. Sounds boring and gross, but they aren't. I also love to read books about sports. Favorite Christian authors are Philip Yancey and Beth Moore.
