Another favorite quote. Not sure who wrote it but it is so true.
...Don't tell someone to get over it. Help them get through it.
You never get over losing someone in your life. You just have to learn to get through it. The process can be made a little easier with a little help from your friends sometimes. It only takes a second to help others.
A little kindness goes a long way.

You are absolutely right! Each of us grieve differently and no one should tell someone to get over the loss of a loved one.
I say get over it to someone who is witching about spilled milk.

Anyone who ever told someone to get over it obviously never went through the pain and heartache of losing a loved one. And helping someone get through it doesn't always include a lot of words.

@CarolDM Even if they never experienced the loss you had, how could they be so clueless?

@1creekgirl Some people only think of themselves. No matter what others are going through. Narcissism at its finest.

That is a great quote. Another one is "Don't judge someone before you walk a mile in their shoes."

I agree, helping others is amazing. The way you can change someone's day or life is incredible to me and it doesn't always take a whole lot!

It does go a long way if only people would take the time to look outside themselves and not judge.

Loss is something no one ever gets over when it is a significant loss. But we all just learn to move on with our lives. Grief is a personal journey and has no time limit. Sometimes we have to give this reminder to well meaning folks who have never really experienced a significant loss in their life yet. I've lost quite a few close family members in a short time. I always miss them, still shed tears every now and then, but I go on living, holding their memory close to my heart that way they are always with me.

The value of empathy for someone who is grieving can't be underestimated.

When we lose someone, it's never easy. You can only take it day by day. Some days are good, some days are bad. You just get through. I agree, with you a little kindness goes a long way. Sometimes just an ear is all some people need. They just want someone to listen to them tell of the wonderful memories they have about the person they lost. Sorry for rambling.

There's nothing worse than having someone telling you to "get over it"...especially if it's losing someone in your life. You need all the help that you can get!
