After spending a couple of days slaving over hot cups of tea, it was time for a culture break. So off to Kensington and the Design Museum to see the Stanley Kubrick exhibition.
It was sub-divided by his films, with each section showing clips from the movie and some prop items, along with scripts, photographs and camera equipment.
Some of the films were lacking in production items, with little for Paths of Glory, while Spartacus only had a senator's toga and Sir Larry's armour. Barry Lyndon, one of my favourites, had some costumes and a uniform. Having said that Paths of Glory was showing the powerful scene of Kirk Douglas determinedly striding along a trench as artillery shells fall and the soldiers sheltered waiting out the final minutes to 'go over the top'.
Clockwork Orange is another favourite, with part of the 'moloko' bar on display, along with some items from other notorious scenes. Pictures are probably NSFm (Not Safe For myLot). There were test shots of Malcolm McDowell trying various hats; glad they went with the bowler. In the lobby of the museum was the car driven by McDowell, the Durango 95, although it is really a Probe 16 from the Adams Brothers.
2001 had the most items, including clothing, ape creature costume, miniatures, electronics and Space Station 5 Hilton plus Howard Johnston's. I have to say that watching a short clip and then a skip of about 30 minutes, another clip and another skip until the end of the film, made more sense than sitting through the two and-a-half hours of the film!

That is an exhibition worth seeing, where you can get an idea of how the films was shot ,moreover you can learn about lots of tidbits about the shooting.

I would like to see this exhibit. Nothing from Lolita, Dr. Strangelove or The Shining?

What a great place to visit. There are a few films that could be shortened a bit - or a lot - without losing anything of value.
