Let's continue our trivia series and explore some more terrific tunes with an exercise term in the title.
Track and field athletes utilize these physical moves in many events. From hurdling to high jump, these explosive actions are skills important to their success. And these moves can be transferred to the dance floor to those who are physically able, as this video by the Brian Setzer Orchestra demonstrates. "Don't try this at home!"
Well now, all that jivin' has got me a little winded, so how about we take a look at those song trivia clues...
Whodunnit? Do you know these songs and artists:
1. This song was #1 for this 80's Rock group. The tune, according to the group's vocalist, was inspired from him seeing a man on a ledge considering suicide. The song's video won Best Stage Performance at the first MTV Video Music Awards. The song also found it's way into a few film's including "Despicable Me 3 and Eddie The Eagle." This track was off the band's album, the one which used the year of the it's release for the album title. The band's guitarist was married to an actress who starred on the TV show "One Day At A Time" a 70's- 80's sitcom.
2. This 1980's song was a top ten hit for this British artist, his biggest U.S charter at #6. The song is about the anticipation and excitement of a night out on the town. The feel of driving around Manhattan in a cab looking for some action fit the tune's title perfectly. This jazz pop song received a Grammy nomination but lost. This artist was heavily influenced by old-style swing, jazz, and blues standards, recording an album called Jumpin' Jive, with songs by Cab Calloway, Lester Young, Glenn Miller, and Louis Jordan. His earlier pre-80's work was a critical success, combining a mix of rock, melodic jazz, and new wave, a style similar to that of contemporaries Elvis Costello and Graham Parker.
Bonus- Our video artist Brian Setzer found widespread success as a member in the early 1980s with this 1950s-style rockabilly group.
Do you know the name of the group?
Ok, time to "fit the bill" and answer the trivia quiz! If your stuck and need additional help just let me know in your response. You can "lean on me" if more clues are needed. As always, thanks for reading and responding to my music post !!!!

1. Y’know, I heard that song in the grocery the other day (that’s when you know you’re old: when your era of rock is “oldies” in the grocery!!) and thought that it’s not that bad a song. As long as I don’t have to watch the video and see Diamond Dave “jump” in front of the camera every time it tried to focus on another member of the band. (And I’ll agree with JJ that it’s a better band as Van Hagar!)
2. Didn’t I just use this guy’s 1979 hit as my #1 song from 1979?? Both of his “major hits” in the US are on my 100 favorites list. “We are young but getting old before our time.” That sure rings true more now than it did 37 years ago. BTW, I saw him on the Night and Day tour. Excellent concert!
3. I can’t strut to any stray cats, so I don’t know.
(And you’ll miss John while he’s on vacation as much as I do!

Ok, #1- A common phase when describing a short distance is a hop, skip and a … This hard rock group had many late 70's and 80's hits including Running With The Devil, Panama and Hot For Teacher (the group is a tough one).
#2 The song is another way to describe going "out" to have a good time. The artist's last name is the same as the current President on the $20 bill
Bonus- another way to describe a cat who has no home or owner.1 person likes this

Well, thanks for reading Valerie! These selections were all recorded in the late 70's and 80's. With the trivia being exercise terms the 2 songs had "Jump" and "Steppin" in their titles. Which are two key elements in track and field. The actress who was married to the guitarist from the band in #1 was Valerie Bertinelli from the sitcom One Day At A time. The guitarist was Eddie "Van Halen" also the group's name. Lots of puzzle pieces to put together and this definitely was a hard quiz. I appreciate the response.

@dgobucks226 Well, I never saw One Day At A Time, so that wouldn't have helped. I definitely don't know those tunes.

This is good. This reminds me when we're having our playground demonstration. We used lively dance music for it.
