Being today is the anniversary of D-Day I thought I should say something about it. The day that started the turn of WWII.
The operation included British, Canadian and American troops making an assault from the English Channel, over 160,000 troops crossed the channel that day. They said that by the end of the operation, at the end of August over 2 million troops crossed the channel and of that there was 226,386 casualties.
Can you imagine being one of those troops crossing on D-Day? As a combat veteran I can not even imagine that. The bullets flying, trying to cross the open sand, the water it is all to much to try and imagine what it was like. These troops average age was 20 years old.
I guess that is one of the reasons we call them the Greatest Generation, sadly we are losing all those that survived that.

I think Saving Private Ryan does a pretty good depiction of what was happening on D Day. The opening series, was very lifelike, according to those who were there.
