Aloe Vera plant is a succulunt plant grown wildly in Tropical and Subtropical regions. These are basically wild shrubs which have been adopted and started cultivated by human beings in the recent past. No scientific studies have been conducted about its effects on human health. I recall we were taught that Aloe Vera can be used as external application only. Aloe vera is not good to be taken orally. That may cause cramps in the stomach, that may cause diarrhea and that can prevent the absorption of other ingredients in digestive system. When taken internally Aloe vera can be toxic, they can cause Cancer and Reproductive toxicity. Despite all these things , it is the gimmicks by the multi national companies and local companies that are instrumental in promoting this dangerous product in the market and unfortunately many of the people are falling pray to it! Are you one of them? Think twice before consuming it!

I always knew about the topical use of aloe - my parents used it for burns and such. I also do remember in the books long time ago it did say to not consume aloe . . . like you said, the cramps, diarrhea, digestive problems. So it was much to my surprise in recent years that it was now considered ok to eat aloe (maybe as others have said, it is a particular variety) and that there are health benefits. I did read that eating the plant raw is not good nor is eating too much of it. So all that being said, I have started drinking aloe (inner fillet) with no preservatives . . . I just put a little bit in a cup and add a lot of water. The bottle says it is good up to 8oz a day - preferably mixed with a drink - and a half hour before having a meal is best. I don't see immediate results yet . . . I'll see by the end of summer.

@AKRao24 Really? I better do some more reading. I have read something about natural latex (aloin or something like that which could be cancer causing) in it . . . and when they process it, they take that part out. And they said something about making sure not to get the colored kind with preservatives - too many toxins. But I will research further . . . any particular articles you think I should look into?

My niece is addicted to drink Aloe Vera and she bought a big bottle for my husband. I poured the content in the sink, simply looking at the slimy liquid made me sick.

I also never ever liked this juice! In fact we used to rear this plant as kids to use the pulp in coating the tread used for kite flying with fine glass powder!

Last week I watched a YouTube video by a homeo doctor about this plant. He said there is a different variety, which is good for health (thinner one but not so common everywhere). According to him it is good to consume the same upto 15 grams, for helping some health issues like cancer if it is consumed along with medicines. I trust him because before doing a video he is doing his own experiments and studies as a doctor. However, I am not going to consume the same, just shared what I heard. (His video is in our native language otherwise I would have shared the same here.)

@AKRao24 No need to ask sorry,I shared what I heard so no way you discourage me either. Then he has not said it can cure cancer. But it helps cancer patients along with the medicine. Another thing, he is not promoting homeopathy and he make videos mostly when there is false things rotate on social media. He is trying his best to convey the reality to people, don't fall in the net of false news spreading through social media, and this is the reality. I will tell you an example. there was a video by an old Tamil lady, she said morning ginger and lemon shells, boil together then drink on empty stomach, will help to keep away the blocks and no one get heart attack. This doctor said, if you drink this solution continuous they you will be an acidic patient for sure. There is no evidence for making this claim so far. So any one want to try this solution, they can do in between meals, which won't make much problems. (He is very popular through TV channels by giving suggestions and answering to patients).

@Sreekala , Thanks taking my write up in proper perspective...I am also of the same opinion that we should not mislead the innocent people. People who are already suffering they readily believe in anything because of frustration and they further deteriorate their health by such remedies! When my brother in laws kidneys got failed he used to visit a Ayurvedic doctor who assured him that he may try the treatment of curing the kidneys. When I heard him I have went to the doctor along with my brother in law and asked one straight thing that is there any cure to treat the failed kidneys in ayurveda. When he said ' No' then I asked him why he is giving treatment to my brother in law. He gave me a funny answer that he was trying the treatment on him. I have threatened him like anything and warned him that this would be his last experiment as he has got no rights to play with the life of people and left him upon his apologies to me and my brother in law. That doctor was awarded Ph D , I have seen about that in local news papers within a week or so from that time then. My brother n law had to go in for kidney transplant to save his life and he got saved from the hands of quack from dying miserably! So I am always careful about such fake claims ...that's all...thanks for understanding dear @Sreekala!

@AKRao24 I think one has to apply his/her common sense before trying any experiments on health. How is your brother in law now, glad you helped him to take the right steps in life. It is wrong to do experiments with patients who has serious complications.

It is a wild succulent plant found in India and we used to treat these plants as an other wild plants. They are not even consumed by the cattle in wild. There are no scientific evidences supporting the claims by the companies promoting this juice!
