Anyone planning or have gone on a camping trip in 2019?
Summer is heating up in Minnesota (northern part of the Us) and for many, camping- with a tent for some, trailer or RV out in nature is one of our cultural “past times”. Also is renting cabins or being anywhere near a lake during the summer months. Since we are stuck indoors for winter for almost half the year (if not more, sometimes) I think we itch to spend time in the Great outdoors. That is my theory, anyway
I like camping...for one day. After that, i need plumbing. And a nice hot shower or two. But i do enjoy the novelty of it- setting up a tent, disconnecting from technology and connecting with nature, going on hikes, and of course spending time with whoever I am going with.
This year I have only one mini camping trip scheduled at the end of July, to the Southeast corner of Iowa to a state park called Piles Peak State Park. They supposedly have beautiful scene art and 11+ miles of hiking. One bonus is that renting a campsite is usually cheap, too, or at least much cheaper than a hotel!
I have been trying to search for accommodations up near the north shore (Lake Superior on the Minnesota side) for August, but my lack of planning ahead shows everything booked up so far.
Do you have any camping plans this summer? How long do you go for? And what types of things do you do to keep busy when out in nature?

I love camping, I usually go for the weekend, 2 nights, but once a year I will go for a week. I already went for a one night stay at the state camp ground about 20 miles from where I live just cause I wanted to get out. I just like being out there in nature, sometimes I go to camp grounds sometimes just out in the forest and find a place to camp for the night.

You sound like my wife! I took her camping once in the middle of nowhere - she asked where she could plug in her hair dryer!

I need a good mattress and a bed, a/c and a hot shower in the morning.
So, needless to say that I am not a camper.
But I do enjoy unplugging and getting out of the city.
That's why we will do a picnic, we did one last weekend and it is so relaxing, but we come home and sleep in our bed and enjoy the many other comforts that make this home sweet home.

My wife and I progressed from tent camping to a pop-up, a hybrid, and last fall we bought a fifth wheel. We are currently on our 7th camping trip already this year including an 8-night stay in the NC mountains. Some might not call what we do now camping. It could more correctly be called RVing. We have a bedroom with a queen sized bed and mattress, a bathroom with a roomy shower stall, a kitchen with fridge, stove, oven, and microwave, a large flat-screen TV, an LED fireplace/heater, a gas furnace, and central air not to mention the dining table and chairs, 2 recliners, and a sleep sofa that converts into a double bed. And all this is in a 32-foot trailer we pull behind our pickup.

I lived in MN for three years but although I spent a lot of my 'spare' time exploring the state I never camped as it seemed you had to book ages in advance. No good if you just want to head off and see where you end up, then find a campsite! I just slept in the back of my old truck instead.
