"A Serial Killer's Daughter" by Kerri Rawson (daughter of the BTK killer). The book was interesting, but spends a lot of time on private family memories, which are much like anyone else's. She dated, fell in love, went to college, got married, struggled through the first year's of marriage. All well and fine, but I was confused on how these things related to being the daughter of BTK. She did eventually talk about growing up with BTK who sounded much like any other person. He worked, enjoyed TV and trips, occasionally got mad but not out of the ordinary, needed alone time and he cried at his daughter's wedding. Perhaps that's what scary about it. He was just like anyone else. After the family found out that their "Dennis" was actually "BTK" (a name he gave himself in one of the letters he liked to write for the police- short for Bind, Tourture, Kill) - Kerri stayed in touch with her dad and described many of her letters to him. In the letters she told him that she still loved him even though she didn't understand why he did his crimes. He would complain of extended family not coming to visit him, saying that they weren't acting very Christian. (Well, not very Christian to go murdering people, either.... so.... ) Eventually though - she would come to disown him - because she found out that he had used the excuse of "working late" to the family when he was in fact our torturing and killing people and that in an interview he had described his family as his "social contacts". I don't aim to judge Rawson - but I think I would be more upset that brutally murdered people. But that's just me.

Nothing wrong with that either. To be honest it was a bit underwhelming and spooky

So it was a boring book about a regular family, except the dad was out killing people. Hmmm, much like the show Dexter?

Doesn't sound like something I would enjoy, sounds like they are both dysfunctional.

That's sorta what I thought too. It sounds like she has her own issues, or at least her priorities are... different...

Good review, but it doesn't sound appealing to me.

@FayeHazel I don't mind the spooky part, but underwhelming would be a drag to me.

@DianneN True... not to be mean to the author but she spent a long time on family vacations, going to college, dating, meeting her husband, etc.... which kind of had me scratching my head a bit...

It was mildly sad, thankfully didn't go into details about BTK's crimes, and other than that..... a bit spooky

@MommyOfEli2013 That's why I prefer Stephen King over true-life crime.

I saw her interviewed twice on TV. What got me was when she said she hoped to see him in heaven! Oh please, if he is there, I don't want to be.

Oh wow. I'm really curious what she's like on tv, might have to look that up. Forgiveness is a tough thing. I suppose God could forgive even such terrible acts under the right conditions - but I would think being truly repentant would be a condition.... and from this book it really didn't seem like btk was. Not that that is 100% but....

It sounds like a sad book. Thanks for the review. I don't think I want to buy it but was thinking about it. I don't have a lot of Amazon gift cards so want stuff with a lot of value for me.

It was spooky... I got the copy I listened to (audiobook) from my local library. :-) I don't think I would listen to it again though.
