1777 - The Stars and Stripes is adapted by Congress as the Flag of the United States.
1937 - Pennsylvania becomes the first and only state of the United States to celebrate Flag Day officially as a state holiday.
1961 - Boy George (George Alan O'Dowd) is born. He's an English singer, songwriter, DJ, fashion designer and author. He was lead singer for the Culture Club. His music is often classified as blue-eyed soul influenced by rhythm and blues and reggae. Some of the Culture Club's songs: Karma Chameleon, Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?, Time, I'll Tumble 4 Ya.
1969 - Steffi Graf is born - She is a German tennis player. She was ranked #1 in the world for 377 days which is more than any other player, male or female. She won 22 Grand Slam Singles titles. In 1988 she became the only tennis player to achieve the Golden Slam - She won all four Grand Slam titles and one Olympic Gold Medal in the same calendar year. She is the only tennis player to have won each Grand Slam tournament at least 4 times.
